speedometer:odometer cable, speed sensor,vehicle speed sensor

My speedometer has stopped working for a while. The only way I can get a speed indication and odometer reading is through my handheld GPS device. I've replaced the vehicle speed sensor, the ABS rear differential sensor, and the fuse, but the odometer is still not working. I don't know if I would have to change the speedometer cable or what. The speedometer cable wasn't hooked up to the VSS before I changed it. I have a 1996 Ranger, 2.3L, with an electronic odometer. Much help is needed.

i'm not sure on your model, but I think there was a tsb on something like that. forgot what was the cause.
