Why do people love this movie? I've spent many frustrating weeks on IMDB explaning the pure crappyness of this film, but no one listens.

has anyone else seen it? (if you haven't yet, don't :p )

Mind elaborating on the 'crappyness' of the film?

I thought it was great.

never heard of it,
is it an older movie?

anyone good in it?

It has quite the extensive cast. Don Cheadle, Matt Dillon, Sandra Bullock, Brendan Frasier, Ludacris to name a few.

Its good, there's just a little too much "crazy chance" involved. I thought it was like Magnolia.

I saw Crash a few days ago. It held my attention throughout the whole movie which is hard to do. It was a little cheesy but still very entertaining.

this movie took extremely unlikely situations, exagerrated them with name-calling, multiplied it with racism, and then tried to pass it off as day-to-day reality..... All while simultaneously holding these situations under a cutesy everything works out in the end, love conquers all, hollywood sells, dream world. Not to mention every single character living on the EDGE of their sanity.

it tries to make a point, but collapses in onto itself. It tries to have a story, but instead drags from situation to situation.

Paul Haggis knows how to make something sell. He knows how to make people feel empowered... it's like eating a tasty burger from Wendy's, then believing it also makes you healthy.

Carjacking.. police abuse.. racial profiling.. yeah never heard of any of that happening in LA

exagerrated them with name-calling multiplied it with racism
Are you familiar with the film term 'exaggeration to effect'?

, and then tried to pass it off as day-to-day reality.....
Where in the movie did it say 'this is not a movie, this is reality' ?

All while simultaneously holding these situations under a cutesy everything works out in the end, love conquers all, hollywood sells, dream world.
Yeah.. having one's estranged brother killed because of a misunderstanding is really a cutesy hollywood ending

I'm not even going to bother continuing with the rest of your 'arguement' because I'm not really sure what you're trying to say.

you answered yourself.

except I am aware of these issues, and that's the subject the movie is supposed to be dealing with. But all at once and then some, this movie is beyond exaggeration to effect. To a point of absolute goofyness.

Ludacris driving a bloodied van, releasing a cage full of prisoners on a busy street.. pulling some chains out of the way... big smile on his face.. how could this not crack you up. Not to mention Ludacris makes a living by singing about money and bitches.

The whole little girl who is bulletproof story. Just one thing after the next. By the end, where its snowing on the burning car, it was please just gimmy a break.

I read the paper and feel sorry for people's misfortune. I volunteer my time when help is needed. While this movie cashes in X100. Just as the very similar movie Million Dollar Baby did.

Uhm.. so.. what is your point?

Except for the fact that it's not Ludacris in the movie, it's a character in the movie. Actors do not equal characters.

The whole little girl who is bulletproof story.
I fail to see how that's 'absolute goofyness'. They were blanks in the gun. She's not bulletproof.

you need to read on to the next quote.. you said it was just a movie, but next you said they were all common situations. Plus if the movie is trying to make a point about controversial issues, then it's meant to be compared to reality.

When "The Rock" or "Roddy Roddy Piper" play a part in an action movie, I'll admit they're entertaining. Having a fucking goofball like Ludacris playing a part a movie like this... is like having Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Notebook.

Not to mention how impossible it is to take Brendan Fraser seriously. Ryan Phillipe, an actor who is useless and annoying. Don Cheadle, a great actor, did the same thing as usual.

They were blanks in the gun. She's not bulletproof.

thanks, >>insert captain obvious pic here<<
I loved how later in the movie it zoomed in on the box of bullets. A moment of pure understanding it twas.

I didn't like this movie and still haven't seen any reasons why it should be appreciated.

I'm still trying to understand why you consider it 'goofy'. I thought the whole story was pretty touching.

I agree however, that Crash is overrated. Way overrated. And I never use that term. But it's a pretty solid movie, with some poor casting decisions.

I can only be so compassionate with my television set. Half way through the movie the caring part of me turned to frustration, and finally broke free with laughter. Not to mention every other scene was trying to be a climax.

and I still don't believe people liked Garden State. :screwy:

It cracks me up when people talk about how unreal movies are... isn't that the point? Besides, if this were to happen in real life, would you just say, nope, not possible because there's no name calling, no racism, no love and nobody ever lives happily ever after in the real world?

I just rented it last night, and I thought it was a very good movie. Sure it wasn't a masterpiece, but it was a hell of a lot better than a majority of the stuff out there. The plot was indeed farfetched, but then again that's sort of the point -- do you ever have one of those days when everything just ties in with everything else to such a degree that you're taken aback? Well the idea is the same here, only the purpose is to show just how people's lives can "crash" onto each other's in such a way so as to give solid credence to the philosophy that maybe we are all part of the same energy, and every once in a while we are drawn to each other for reasons far beyond our grasp.

Plus it must have been a really fun movie to write. There are definitely some thinking points in there as well. You find yourself labeling people in the movie as to what role you think they'll play throughout it, only to find that you're wrong just as often as you're right, and perceptions aren't always the truth (coincidentally, this is exactly what the characters in the movie do, except with the focus being on racial issues) so in essence, we're living the movie along with the characters, albeit on a different level.

On a side note, I think they showed the box of bullets as blanks to reinforce the idea that the Persian family were unaware of the type of ammo they had actually obtained -- hence the daughter just called it "the red box". Also, I think it was to emphasize the point that it wasn't just a misfire or something -- the bullets were actually blanks (which again is what ties it in with the idea of the family's ignorance of firearms.) And this is what impressed me about the movie, the fact that they managed to tie everything in so well, with very few loose ends, while the ending is anything but cutesy IMO. The DA's wife realizes she's spent so many years alienating people because she's so angry (the carjacking being sort of the last straw) that she realizes her anger is what's feeding the alienation which in turn angers her more, the man who was run over is actually smuggling people in for presumably negative reasons (people who end up being dumped out onto the streets of an alien city half a world away from their homeland, with nothing more than $40 and each other), the estranged brother dies at the hands of a rookie cop who was full of the very preconceived values and ethics that the veteran cop (who himself ends up getting a heavy dose of perspective) warned him about, etc. There's a lot that happens in this movie, and I for one was very impressed -- it left me thinking, and I like it when a movie does that because it means I got more out of it than just a couple hours of entertainment.

I do like that Don Cheadle.
He was the one that got this mega-cast together, and good for him.

I liked this movie, regardless of how realistic is came across. It hit on some heavy, but often true problem that still linger in society.

I think I need to watch it again for more perspective.

Recommended.
