Clunking noise in rear on '92 Taurus

My girlfriend's sister owns this car and recently noticed a clunking noise coming from the rear suspension while driving. The left side seems worse than the right. If you bounce the rear of the vehicle it sounds like a bad strut or loose mount etc. Going to have it looked at this afternoon. All stabilizer bars etc. look intact. Maybe dry bushings? I thought first it was the rear brakes grabing but we get the noise without applying the brakes. Has anybody run across a similar problem on their Taurus?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Could be bushings, also check the rear springs. I've seen some Fords with broken springs. Could also be a worn rear strut mount.

My parents had similar symptoms from their '97 Taurus a couple of months ago. I took a look at it and found the rear drivers side stabilizer end link was broken, it sheared at the top mount just below the bushing. You couldn't really tell until you actually grabbed it and moved it. It stayed vertical and the noise was caused by the broken link hitting the upper mount. I replaced the links on both sides and it's been fine since. It took me about 1.5 hours to do.
