Speedometer Sensor

The speedometer in my 1992 Nissan Altima stopped working. I have been told by my mechanic that the senors needs to be replaced. Apparetnly, a new sensor from the dealer and labor costs will run about $600.

The mechanic told me that he is unable to use a sensor obtained from a jumkyard due to something to do with the mileage of the car. Therefore, he is saying that I need to use a new dealer purchased sensor that will run about $400.

Does this sound accurate or can I use a sensor obtained from a junked car.

Many thanks.

ur mechanix sux u can replace the sensors from a junk car. if u r changing the speedo itself then u need to display the last mileage from the original, if the new one has lower mileage. i changed both sensor on mine for the same problem, didnt work, so good luck
