Member perceptions linked to avatar?

Here's a silly one for ya. I was thinking that unconsciously I think of members in terms of their avatars (or, in some cases, their lack of avatars). Therefore, when a member changes their avatar, it causes me to likewise alter my perception of them. It's not a conscious decision, it just occurs naturally, except for members that I know quite well, so that a changing picture does not affect my perception. Just curious if others feel the same way.. or if I'm completely out in left field on this one :confused:

What I coincidence, I changed my avatar today. I know what exactly what you mean. Then sometimes people post their pictures and completely shatter that perception.

No I don’t really have perceptions of people from their avatars, although I do get to know people by their avatars, so when they change them I think that they’re someone else. :p

I think it reflects on how i see that person at times.
Takes a little while to get used to there new one at times

It definitely affects me. For the longest time I thought Spec2 was blonde, because her avatar was. I basically think of everyone as their avatar, and I had a hard time dealing with P-man's new one.

So does that mean you all associate me with overpriced Hondas? Or with plastic cars?

I always liked being able to recognize a member by their avatar, but when they get changed I get all :confused: So here is everyone's warning: tangie is on the hunt for a new avatar!!! :eek:

I tend to identify peoples posts by thier avatar and also take a quick look at thier name to make double sure (I am strange like that:rolleyes: )

i think i rather enjoy being associated with a victoria's secret catalog model. to bad i cant use porn or people would be associating me with things that are way more tasteless and offensive then women in underware.......wait a second that isnt tasteless.

Yes, when I look at someone's avatar, I either picture them looking like the avatar or having the personality portrayed in the avatar.

If you have a woman in your avatar, then I think you are a woman...

I always associate the person with the avatar... I have a big stash of pictures that I would love to use as my avatar, but I don't ever change it because I don't wanna confuse anyone.

I have a whole series of these, so I'll always be somewhat recognisable.

I must agree, that I tend to associate or identify people by their avatars. Screws me up when they change it.

This one is ~6 months old, and depicts the old me. The guy who used to be down on himself all the time. Now I just go around making fun of others :D (Also, I dont really like SW EP:1).

Well, I match the pic with the name. When they change, I just learn there new pic. I do though look at the pick n' name to determine whether the person is a guy or woman.

Not to go off topic to much, but........everytime I've tried to get an avatar, there is something wrong with it!!!!! :newburn: Any help?

It needs to be 100x100 pixels maximum, and also make sure that you save the changes you make. Not sure of any other reason that it wouldn't work.

Probably also has to be either .jpg or .gif

moondogs avatar is disturbing.Boingo 82 I see as exactly like her avatar.most of my friends at AF have been kind enough to give me real pictures for my hard drive so I know what people look like anyway.:)
