Truck is running well and I'm looking at some property in the bush. Come out of the bush and it feels like I've lost the transmission. It's major rpm and no moving then it moves then it shifts down and the rpm soars. I left it and went and had coffee, fired it up and it seemed to run a lot better, got home no sweat. Next day going in to town it won't shift out of first until 2500rpm then it hops back and forth between gears like it's slipping. This is the 4th transmission I've had in this truck and I cannot believe this is happening...again. Surely there must be something wrong besides me having to replace a tranny every two and a half years. Reading back through some of the threads is this a torque converter issue?.. an electrical issue? I live in a town with no transmission shop..believe it or not. The tranny has an electronic overdrive if that helps.

So I would really appreciate any ideas I can take to the shop in aid of fixing the problem... and Not buying another bleeding tranny.

Thanks for the time..Tom

You didnt say, but i imagine you have an e4od trans. If it is these trans. came out in 1988 i believe, and had alot of bugs in the beginning, most of which have been fixed in the later models. However , if the shop that is doing your work isnt doing the upgrades and modifications to the trans. and valve bodies, these problems will reoccur. Also this trans./truck has a speed processor(electronic control unit), that controls the shift points, that can malfunction and cause some of the trans. failures. Even if you do a good rebuild, and dont correct any electronic problems you have , the problems can reoccur. Try to find a shop that can run the diagnostics on the electronics, and will give you a good warranty. Jasper transmissions is a reputable nationwide co. , with a good warranty program. Once you get the upgrades, this trans. should last a long time. Good luck

PS: You might try changing the fluid, and filter, but if its been recently rebuilt, it shouldnt need it already. When you get the pan off, youll be able to see if theres metal shavings and debris in it. If its clean, you likely have valve body, speed processor problems, or leaky clutch piston seals. If its dirty, and the filter is clogged, changing it may give you a temporary fix. Put a drain plug kit in the pan while you have it off, makes it alot easier next time!!............

Hope the info helps a little. Heres another thought or two, hard to think of em all at one time! Ask them if they flushed the trans. fluid cooler and lines. They should also flush, and inspect the torque converter. Alot of otherwise good rebuilds have been ruined because of metal shavings and debris in these two areas, and it gets back into the new trans. GOOD LUCK.........ED
