Hey guys, my ABS is being a real B@$tard lately, the light stays on almost 24/7 now and sometimes while accelerating it lurches etc. Anyways i was wondering if there is an easy way to remove the ABS? Would taking out the fuses or pulling out the sensor plugs stop it from working or wud that make it even worse. Would there be a big difference if i didnt have the abs? Its prolly not good for the car having it kick in while moving fair speeds without braking. Anyways any help appreciated. Thanks

You know that light is on for a reason. Fix the fault and the light goes out. A shop should be able to read the code and tell you why the light is on.

My guess is that you have a wheel sensor that is going south. It either never works, or occasionally works (when you get a lurch). Without that sensor working correctly, the ABS system has no idea when a wheel has locked up (or is about to).

you could take the fuse out and that would disconnect the abs, but that light would be permanently on

some black tape, just tape it right over the light.

on a serious note, you should just get it checked out, it would prob just be better to get it fixed then removing it.

Yeah but see i got this car for free, and i dont feel like putting to much money into it, it has high km's and im just gonna baby it and go cheap, unless something is serious, this dont seem to serious to me. Unless u think i really shud get it fixed, how much do u think it would cost? Thanks

it will because if you pull the main abs fuse that means there is no circuit going through. Which means no power to the abs. But i would get it fixed. Even if you got it for free, that will not matter when you have to pay a bill to get somones car fix because you accidentally ran it to the back of there car. It is hard to know when to hit the pedal when you don't have abs it will not have alot of pedal and after you go so far down it will make a quick stop. So i would get it fixed.

You will have some brake pedal. The thing is, no matter how hard you press it, (if breaking on ice), it wont make a difference. When the abs kicks in, it does the breaking itself. So if your on ice, and your pushing the brake as hard as you can, it wont make a difference if you to were press it normally.
ABS can be quite a life saver. I know in the other car's ive owned, it's stopped me from sliding into oncomming traffic in the winter, etc. And the abs in my cavalier doesnt work right now, so i'm looking into getting it fixed too since winters only a few weeks away here :S. Last year i went without it and almost had a heart attack from almost sliding into stopped cars. crazy stuff.
So yea. Get your abs fixed. They invented it for a reason!
