hey everyone. my roomate wants to make his accent go faster. he's doing intake/exhaust, all the normal stuff...but what about engine mods. i heard mitsu's eclipse engine might just go right in (not the turbo crysler one) what else is out there? hyundai is mitsu right? well, let me know what youve all done so i can relay it..thanks!

I'm thinking of getting a new accent too so it might be interesting what aftermarket parts are out there for the hyundai's. I know that the old hyundai's shared engine from mitsubishi, i think the newer ones are actually hyundais' own engines and not mitsubishi... but i might be mistaken. Anyway, i know that they are pretty big in korea and they have turbos for tiburon and stuff... maybe even import some parts and be the first domestic turbo tiburon... heheheh :smoker2:

10 yrs./100K until you mod it. believe me, when they see a custom intake/exhaust, port & polished head, any of that and warranty is void. regardless, i think you're right about the recent models being void of mitsu. parts. it would be cool if someone who HAD on of these cars would mod it and speak up! will the tiberon engine go into an accent? HELLO PEOPLE! you all should take lessons from us nissan SER/G20 owners. go look at that forum and feel ashamed.:licker:

I heard a recent rumor from a hyundai dealer that their new tiburons are going to look totally different and will come in V6's totally labeling them as sports cars in the books of insurance companies!

You´ve got to be mad to think you´re gonna get enough power from an plain, banaly unadorned 2001/2 Hyundai Accent even if you put 2 turbos on it.
The Accent was conceived strictly for going from point A to point B (not recomendable ou of town though) with a very basic equipment and a low consumpiton fuel gas. I think Hyundai is risking a lot by putting so much guarantee on cars they don´t even trust, lets see what happens in the next 10 years...
Oh, I copied a safety fact from the web; ´The Accent earned two stars but the last star is flagged to indicate the unacceptably high risk of chest injury in the side impact. For this reason, the car would not meet the requirements of legislation commencing next October for new model types. The passenger compartment became unstable in the impact. The driver's door lower hinge became detached, while the upper hinge was nearly detached. The door itself had lost much of its strength – its front pillar was displaced inwards and seams in the footwell split open. The driver's head contact was stable on the airbag but his chest was hit by the airbag as it inflated. Overall, protection for the driver's lower limbs was weak or worse.´
ok, this is for model year ´99, and for the new model (2000-) the Accent (not confirmed) did got 2 stars with no one flagged.

this 'Coupe' may just pull them into a beter performance class in my mind as well. They obviously have the style down, its just the dependability issues. 10yrs. thats a *damn* long time for a car to run w/o defect unless its quality. but the new SE-R is out and for 17K$ you get one LOADED...dont think ill have the chance to check out the coupe any time soon with that looming about.

That 10-year guarantee means that if you buy a Hyundai the company is gonna have your car fixed for free during those 10 years, because obvioulsy there´s gonna be more than a problem with it. :evillaugh :greenchai
And yeah the Nissan SE-R looks to be a serious-to-consider car with a good performance under 20k, and it even as 4 doors! (roominess+)

Firstly the later Model hyundais have hyundai engines in them(from about 1993 onwards). I dont have an Accent but i have a Excel with an Accent engine in it. When I bought my excel it had 112000km's on it so i went out and bought a near new accent engine(3500km's)and gearbox that bolts straight in. For the person that wants to get some ideas for mos on the engine, I have hardened internals to cope with a HKS turbo and front 18psi boost(maximum boost is 28psi)i also have a HKS front mount intercooler. i also have braided lines and crome rocker cover. I have a 3 inch exhasut with 5 inch tip and custom extractors. I have 18 inch Rays engineering whiteracing wheels i have alot more mods but i couldnt be bothered listing them all. Anyway this all costed me $27000 including the car. Its not bad to go from a 74 KW at the flywheel stocker to a 250KW at the wheel V8 killa:devil:

Jaja, even if the Civic is damn popular, I wouldn´t compare it with it because the Civic doesn´t feels cheap, it comes nicely equiped, with distinctive design (the old generation, please) and it is reliable and reasonably safe, wich the Accent achieves none of those

Just to let you all know that no dealership can void your warrenty for any aftermarket part that get put on your car. It is against the law to do so. Unless you modify OEM equipment. I use to have firedns that work for a hyundai dealership and they told me about that. Plus i also use to own a 97 HA GT.

Well, the Tib motor is cool, but there have been people to turbo the accent motors,, the car just needs to be more stable at high speed, so before dropping crazy cash into the motor.. get brakes and rims.. lowring the car would also help with higher speeds.. Sure they arent drag cars in the making but they can hit 130mph on the freeway (first hand experience) I think it helped that I was going downheill, anyhoot, with some money the car canbe pretty nice and pretty quick.. and dont buy focal rims, they suck... buy some volk or SSR, maybe even a set of Rotas.. the 4-lug brembo kits for v-dubs will also fit the Accent hubs.. good brake= save your life at 100mph=.. PEACE!!!!!

I don't know. I have a 2002 Hyundai Accent. The only thing I bought for it is a CD deck and a K&N drop-in air filter. I would suggest the K&N for any car for anyone just because it's seemed to of helped my gas mileage greatly.
The thing is, from what my dad has told me, with these engine swaps, the ride becomes uncomfortable and other things. So a lot more modifications would need to be completed before a car is back to normal with more horsepower. Although, you guys have also covered that... So this whole paragraph is in vain... How to save it... how to sa... OH! So, have you found that this is true? With new engine = bad ride/uncomfortableness/other bad side effects?
In my mind, I would of much rather had the $27k for a WRX and a little left over. I'm also all drooly over the WRX, but this, is a Hyundai form! So I'll keep it to it.
But you also have some... Is 333hp (correct hp, right?) Accent. Which has to be unique. Good job... You crazy asshole. I mean that in the most endearing way possible.

Dude, if you are gonna mod your car seriously, you might as well expect a horrible ride, so you don't feel bad when the ride is a little better than bad... hehe... my sister has a 2002 Accent thats okay to ride in but its like a she male whore in roller skates in the twisties....My cuz on the other hand has a teg that forces you to got to the chiropracter but it handles like its rails..... Anyway, my point is, unless you wanna spend tons of cash, you won't get benz comfort with skyline performance (with very few exempted cars).. and finally, if you wanna mod your car, forget what your dad and your warranty manual says, "you do what you want!!!".....

Oh dear god no. I wouldn't want to modify the Accent. I don't think 90hp would be a good base for any mods. :P
I would like a 240SX. There is a guy selling a RX7 10th Anniversary that I would like to get my hands on, but I'm not sure. Insurance could be a big hassle. I've already totalled one car, moderate speeding ticket and a Careless Driving knocked down. :D They're reaaaaaaaaaaalllll happy with me. :D

O ic , you've seen my car in my signature right.... 240SX?? its the baddest car in th world to me... It can't move yet but I know it will never be legal.... THhe exhaust pushes past 110Db easily..... Just remember, fu** the law and whoever when ur modding ur car.. And when people tell you that something is illegal (SR20's and exhausts) tell um to fu** themselves. PEAS!!!!!

Hahaha, well, just imagine telling an officer to eff off. No offense, but I think something like that is stupid to get pulled over. I would just suggest something with a street legal noise level with performance in mind. In my year of driving I've been pulled over twice. Once for speeding and once for careless driving. Its not the greatest thing for the officer to give you a ticket. But again, its your car, you can do what you want. My friend had a Tiburon with illegal tint (I believe it was rated at 2).
Anything I plan to do with a car would be legal, as far as I can see.

Thats cool dude, but I don't really care about rules... They make em, I break em, I say.. But I can totally understand where you coming from... I don't want tickets but, they are inevitable in the world of racing (street-wise that is) At least John Law will have something to bitch about when my Apexi N1's kill his f****** eardrums:devil: And, I've been pulled over three times and I still only have my permit... Twice for speeding (no tickets thank god).. and once for yanking the handbrake in my sisters Accent while turning onto the freeway.. dumb I know... but the only way to roll around here.. (that got me a ticket but it was cleared because I said I was tryin to avoid a collision) hehe

lol, Did the back end come around at all? I've done that twice after it's rained and the back has come around and I got it straight again pretty quickly. It wasn't a huge drift or anything, but it was jolly good fun. My friend says it was luck, but I've done it twice, and after the snows I would go out and do this kind of crap and only lost control a few times.
Although, now, I have pull on the emergancy break really hard for any effect.

Well, the back end did come fully around but I didn't recover.. I had to slowly pull off the side grass... hehehhe.. Yeah, the handbrake is really loose now, loose to the point that I have to pull it with all my mght to get any squeak.,.. hehee

Hahaha, you crazy ass.
Yeah, that emergancy break really needs to be tugged for anything to happen after a few mistreatments. My friend asked if he could just slam it up. He did and nothing happened. He tried harder and then we could eventually feel it. Soooo lame.

Yeah my handbrake could be tighter, much tighter... but with the slightest bit of rain on the road a good yank does the trick, but winter is another story, doesnt take much at all..
The accent handles great in the snow!
narrow snow covered roads, high speeds, drifting a turn sideways and then some.

if u dont mind spending a few extra bucks go to http://www.essentialspeed.com for a turbo kit. a good $4,000 tho. good luck. also some other sites:
www.sharkracing.com
www.teamsr.com
www.kspec.com
www.hyundaiperformance.com (good forums too)
these sites only sell the basics tho. CAI, Headers, shocks, and thats about it for performance. they have more interior/exterior upgrades than anything.
