pimp my ride vs overhaulin

i just finished watching both shows on demand and i was just thinking about it and here are my opinions on them.
pimp my ride- i like pimp my ride because sometimes they could fix up a car that could attract a lot of attention at a show but most of the time they have to put a bodykit on every car (f-150, pacer,escort,grand national and many more ) which is one reason why half the show's cars have ended up on ebay, and they never get under the hood, like i've seen them touch the engine 3 times and the 1st time it was just a tune up because it didn't run, 2nd time they chromed it and the third time they got a stronger engine for the chevelle and they they messed it up when they put neon all over the car. west coast is really slacking off because they can do a lot better than that.

overhaulin-has more advantage over pimp my ride because the lead designer used to design cars that are on the road now and they get more into the technical parts of the car like if they get a mustang they buy the strongest engine and best transmission that they can get on their budget and they take the car and make it unique compared to any car thats ever hit the road.

"Pimp My Ride" is just a tv show for ricers... :banghead:

I've never watched Overhaulin, but it sounds like its a better show than Rice My Ride... :shakehead

Top gear for me

Of the two choices;

Pimp my ride - they do some cool stuff, but not much that I would really want to do to my car.

Overhaulin' - they do everything I would want to do to the car. So I prefer Overhaulin'.

But Top Gear pwns both.

I would rather have the cars in Overhaulin' but the show is soooooo F-ing boring I can't stand to watch it. Although the last two new painters have sucked on PMR I still think a lot of the shit they do is pretty trick. The cars may be all show, but it certainly makes for a better show.

I could care less what chip does to some old muscle car. When someone does up a POS though I want to see it.

It's not that you don't know what they are talking about. It's that Overhauling is basically restoring a car from the ground up, and adding Chip's touch and other of his quality.

Overhauling hands down. they do better quality the entire car is better when they finish, compared to pimp my ride. It's show and a WHOLE lot of go.

but of any car show it has to be Top Gear for me. i've never seen Overhaulin' here in the UK, i doubt it will ever get here. people in the UK have very little intrest in cars from the US, so i cant imagine any network paying to air the program.

i've seen probably almost every episode from the first and second series/season of pimp my ride, i wan't very impressed. i was excited to have a program/show about modifying cars, but no engine mods. an im one of those people to spend all the money on the engine an none of body mods. it lost its appeal very quickly.

Never seen Overhaulin' either. Pimp My Ride is entertaining enough to watch, i dont have a problem with it.

Top Gear owns all car programmes.

ya, both are good, but overhauling definately comes out with better finished product. unless u like the all show no go. if they saved some money from the 8 tvs they use, they could buy these poor people a engine!

Pimp my ride sucks. And their suckage is not limited to what they do to the cars... the show itself sucks. It makes my skin crawl to watch them discuss what they're going to do to the car (when they're sitting around the conference table)... Their scripting is so horrible, and even if it wasn't, these guys would never be able sound like they weren't reading it off of a teleprompter.

Oh well, just ANOTHER reason that MTV fails at being remotely worthwhile.

Overhaulin' is pretty good. I think they do some decent work to the cars, and they don't neglect the power-plant. Every car I've seen them do, I've really liked the end result.

the guy that does the materials an stitching stuff does some amazing work, but everytime they discuss what they're gonna do its "blah blah blah....orange piping"

and also the "wheel guy", now i guess that bellagio or what ever they're called sponsors the show but its always "blah blah blah....bellagio 19 inch blah blah..."

just gets boring real quick.

Chip Foose owns all at car design.... therefore my pick is overhaulin, I just wish they would kill the stupid plot of tricking the person and then surprising them with the finished car. It was old after the second show.

I cant stand watching pimp my ride. Even if its car modifying. Almost as bad as interior decorating shows.

I like Overhaulin' over "ghetto-style, bling-bling" Pimp my Ride !!!!

I prefer to watch the car shows that actually show you something about fixing/modifiying the cars. That's why I prefer Overhaulin' and stopped watching "American Hot Rod". On AHR all the show is about is Boyd and Dwayne yelling and screaming. I want to see what they do, and how they do it, to the cars !!!

stock lumina?bring it on.....j/k, i think the one where they did the need for speed car was fun to watch, but came out ugly.....and yes, those overhaulin set-ups seem fake.

To me, Pimp My Ride is more like building a car for show off purposes only and then garaging it, where as Overhaulin' is like having a show car but you would be proud to make it a daily driver if you want it.

American Hot Rod falls into the same category with American Chopper and Unique Whips (on Speed channel). The vehicle turns out nice but the constant yelling, screaming, and bitching turns me off...

Top Gear owns.

Pimp my ride cars are like putting a bandaid over a sore. Underneath all that "bling bling" stull, it's still the same junker they started with. Overhaulin is better but I don't like the fake ripoff, cop stuff. Chop Cut Rebuild is the best of the all. It's a little slower paced. You don't get to see them do the whole car in one episode. I used to like American Hot Rod alot but now I think They should put Dwayne and Sr. from American chopper in a steel cage death match and show that instead.

Stop voting for Top Gear or 5th Gear, they're not options here.

i watch the pimp my ride uk on the internet and it's real funny. the host tries too many attempts to sound black and so far the only car they tricked out that looks good was the vw golf.

Hahahaha, the host on the UK edition is such a tool. That dude is like 40, and they have him talkin' like a thug. The cars are a tad bit better than the US edition, but that still doesn't say much.

I've never been able to watch a full episode of Pimp My Ride...it's too frustrating seeing those idiots get all excited about some ricer bodykit or neons and 20" rims on a Honda. There doesn't seem to be any real automotive expertise going on, just a bunch of guys with some wrenches and screwdrivers...I could do a better job in my backyard.

Foose, on the other hand...it's artwork, really. The way they measure everything down to the last bolt to make sure it all lines up. Every detail is considered before they even start working on the car...that's professional restoration/modification.

Pimp my ride is terrible.... They waste over $20,000-$30,000 just on interior and cheap junk add ons to the car and nothing to the engine... My friends and I are going to make a parody on Pimp my Ride this November since I got a hand me down 1981 Toyota Supra that my aunt has had for a long time and we are going to call it "Rice my Ride" jsut like the earlier post.... but anyways back on topic. I prefer Overhaulin much more.

Yes! I've watched a couple episodes of AHR, but only for the Mike & Charlie factory, now they've let to work for Foose though. I could nto have been happier.

Pimp my ride is undoubtedly the worst program ever. I can honeslty say I haven't watched more than 5 min of it. Just awful. Ride with FMF isn't far off either. There's something about a black rapper going on about rims & bling that makes me want to break something.

As for Overhaulin' the cop-surprise theme is kinda stupid, but I'm paying more attention to Courtney half the time so I don't mind so much. For the reocrd, they don't just do muscle cars either, there's been a number of SUV's and other cars on the show.

Okay I could only stomach about 30 seconds of PMR UK. Tim Westwood must die.

Overhaulin whoops PMR ass. If only they would focus more on the renovation and not the pranks. But Foose designs some hot shit in those old school cars. It's classy, and they make the car actually worth something... (and reliable). PMR does what it says... they pimp out old rides. Overhaulin rebuilds.

I like the cars better from overhaulin, but I like the customization of PMR.

Pimp my ride give there cars shitty paint jobs, fish tanks, big rims, and shitty looking body kits. But overhaulin takes a fucking sweet car, tears it down, and makes it eye candy. They completely redo everything, from the ground up. Pimp my ride doesnt even compare. What would you rather watch? a shitty vehicle have a dog shampooer in it, or an awesome car, completely redone with a bad ass engine/tranny? Any car buff can easily answer that question....
