Replacing 2000 Lincoln LS tires

I have owned a Lincoln LS with 17 inch wheels for several years (and a couple of sets of tires.) I am tired of paying almost $800 for four tires that last only 35,000 miles.

My tire supplier is suggesting that I go from 235/50 R17 95v to a similar tire with a "s" rating. He cautions that the ride may not be as stable.

Has anyone with a LS tried this swap? The new tires would cost about $420 and would last one-third longer. It sounds like a win/win if there are no significant drawbacks.

in your size with a V rating for just $96 each. They should just be a slight step down from the stock Continentals (at least I think thats what the stock tires are on an LS).

I'm not familiar with Cooper tires but I will check them out. My dealer has Continental, Firestone, and Michelin and I'm a little reluctant to buy tires on the internet, but for $400 maybe it's worth a try.
