I have a 94 Jimmy and I dropped the tank but cant get the lock ring off. Do I try to turn the outer ring or inner ring and which way do I turn it? Also there are tabs on the inner ring. Do I have to bend those in?

use a hammer and a flat head screw driver... Hit the tabs sticking up from the side counter clockwise.... It will unlock after a couple of inches... install in reverse...

The screwdriver will work, but I would suggest if you have a piece of brass, a brass punch preferrably, it would be better to use. You'll want to avoid sparks. Just be careful with it either way.
