How to remove the turning combo Switch

Has anyone ever removed the turning-headlights-emergency lights-Cruise Control combo switch from a 2000 (or similar) cavalier?

My headlights don't turn on anymore, and I would like to remove the switch and conduct some tests on it before I go out and buy a new switch. I'm a little daunted as to removing the switch. Anyone ever done it before?

Thanks

It's not as daunting a task as it seems, just remove the plastic covering from the steering column, and youll be able to see where the switch is attached, theres 3 hex screws, and once you remove them, you should just be able to unplug the switch, just make sure your negative battery cable is unhooked, i didnt do this, and for some reason, when i took the screws out and lifted the switch out, the horn went off, must be a ground in there. The only thing that might be different in my experience is that my 01 fire doesnt have cruise control.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I think you are correct about the cruise control, I think I can see 2 connectors attached to that combo switch. My new switch is on its way so I won't remove the old one until then.

Thanks

When I try and remove the bottom piece of the shroud the handle for the steering tilt is in the way. How do I remove the tilt lever?

Thank you,

Jerry

Thanks. I did get it off. I had to spray some stuff to loosen the threading and use vice grips, but it did finally unscrew.

I appreciate your help,

Jerry
