I'm looking for information on the O2 sensor. My check engine light comes on about every 15 minutes and will stay on unless I back off of the gas pedal, in which case it immediatley goes out until the next 15 minutes. I checked the code sequence and it said O2 sensor (check O2 sensor wiring and/or replace). Since it is a somewhat primitive OBD, I'm wondering if anyone else has ran into this issue. If so, what was the resolution...
Thanks.
Thanks.

Replace the O2 sensor already! It has lasted 15 years. They aren't too expensive or too hard to replace yourself.

Thanks for responding. I'm trying to learn what is going on. According to my book, if it needs replacing the light should stay on. Since it goes off each time I take my foot off the gas, I thought it may be related to something else. The book suggested to "check the wiring"..nothing more specific than that. Happy to replace it, and indeed it is simply, but I want to understand, rather than replace for no reason and add to the landfill.

It is a one wire sensor on this vehicle. I supposed the wire could be laying on or near the exhaust manifold and could be shorting out. This is normally not the case though.
