Hello all. I was just curious if anyone knew if a bad knock sensor would cause a backfire when accelerating. The knock sensor helps to retard or advance timing, right?

Any thoughts?

The knock sensor sends a signal to the computer to tell it when knock is detected. When the computer gets the signal it retards timing to eliminate the problem. Knock sensors can go bad but it should give you a CEL. Unless timing is being retarded severely a back fire is very unlikely. But you would notice a severe loss of power as well.
