Yes around the year 01 they started to have Variable valve timing.
The 1.8t's had this too.
How do you tell if you have one?
Well the Early 1.8t's were listed as having 150hp (the non VVT)
Later ones were listed as having 180hp (with VVT)
Funny thing is, the mechinism is in most of the motors, but not used as VVT.
How is this VVT done? Actually there is a tensioner that expands between chain running one cam to the other. This expansion causes a slight difference adding HP at the right RPM
