97 Hyundai Tiburon help?

I bought a 97 Hyundai Tiburon FX with 122,000 miles for 1,000 from a repo agent and found out it had a salvaged title. Well i just got the car painted. Was wondering if someone could help me with my transmission slipping. Going from 2-3000 rpms it revs high and then jerks back down to 2000 rpms. Whats the best way to fix it. Also wanting to improve the performance and was wondering what to do to start off. Not all the car smart but am loving to learn how to fix it up. Also would like to have it sound louder and just put on a magna flow muffler but the car still isn't very loud and was wondering what i could and should do to increase it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. And will post some pictures for any other suggestions. Thanks Tyler

your clutch is worn out. ;)
i suggest replacing it with an aftermarket one, instead of a stock one. an aftermarket clutch will not increase power, but will provide more grip, putting more of your power straight to the wheels instead of slipping which just converts it to heat.
ebay has some clutches for our cars right now. havent really read any reviews, but i would give one a try if your not to pressed for money, they are CHEAP.
just watch out for the 4-puck ones. it will be insanely grippy, and not fun to drive around town everyday. you will stall often, or kill your tires within a couple months. will hold more power though generally.
while you are getting that replaced, you might as well get a aftermarket flywheel too. lighter ones will allow the engine to rev much more freely.

The only thing is its automatic so is there anyother suggestions you can provide. Anything is greatly appreciated.

oh, well then...
could be a bad torque converter. maybe even a tranny computer problem. good news is that you can swap to a manual transmission if you want to. its been done quite a few times with tiburons, and manual transmissions on ebay are CHEAP.

I just bought a used 97 tiburon a little over a month ago and the thing put a connecting rod through the block so now i'm faced with putting in a new engine... i was wondering what kind of engines are interchangable with my car, i'm hoping for something with more power if possible.

Elantra motors are compatable dont know exact years but we got one out of a 99' Check with local salvage yards they can get you fitment!! Oh and about the tranny slipping problem the used auto trannys can run more then you paid for the car!!! These were not very good trannys and do not hold up to the abuse. So if you plan on beating on this car go the manual route or sell it.

hey man it sounds to me like you have a bad torque converter. easy to replace and not to pricey (at least for f-bodys) so shouldn't be to bad for you. also making it loud is not a good idea, throws you into a ricer cat. magnaflow is a good sound but not on an import, look into some other exhaust systems. good luck with your problems and hope it all turns out good for you.
