air bag safety

Hi,
I am trying to fing the instructions to disable the airbags when I work on the steering column, such as the switch area.
97 K1500 pickup also for a friend a 97 1500 Tahoe.

Disconnect the battery, do not do any thing for 5-10 minutes, then proceed with the work, be careful not the damage any of the yellow wires and connectors, addt'l info is available in a special shop manual form the dealer.

I thought I remember something saying to pull the fuse?
