Rear Shocks

Hi
Any recomendation on rear shocks? 2001 with 90,000 kms. One looks oily.
1) When should they get replaced under normal usage.
2) The air leveller in the shock, should i stick with these or get rid of this option.
3) ANy brand recomendations?

If you have air leveling and do any sort of towing or hauling in your van... keep with the air system. I just replaced my shocks a couple weeks ago... easy 45 minute job on jack stands. I used Monroe shocks instead of AC delco. Far cheaper and work just as good.

I got mine from Rockauto.com , I forget the model, but their site will tell you.

If you change them... remember to spray the lower bolts a couple days or so ahead of time with some WD-40... or else you may have trouble.

Monroe MA824 are the direct fit replacement shocks with the automatic air leveling. They will set you back about $70USD for the pair.

As MagnaPilot said, they are easy to replace. I personally wouldn't even bother spraying the bolts. I'm presuming since you said km that you are Canadian, which means the nuts will be rust welded on. An angle grinder will quickly take care of them. Just buy two new hardend bolts/nuts.

With the rear shocks, what is involved in disabling the air lifting mechanism.

For example if the air compressor broke, or if I go with non air levelling shocks, how would you turn it off.

I turned my compressor off by pulling the fuse in the fuse block.
