Turning Speeds

Say you're going down a road with a posted 60mph speed limit and you approach a turn with a yellow sign with black lettering posting 50mph.

Is this just a precautionary recommendation of what you're speed at the turn should be? If so, it would be perfectly legal to take that turn at 60mph, correct? (Assuming it is within the handling abilities of your vehicle)

or does 50mph effectively become the speed limit for the duration of the turn?

Yeah its just a recomendation, you don't have to follow it. Some cops will pull you over though, though they have no legal write to give a ticket though, sometimes they might, so watch it.

50 mph is the recommendation, but you can get written up for speed to fast for conditions though. This is usually if you get into an accident.

Yea, say you get into an accident and they trace your speed(through skid marks, etc...) and find you were going over the "recomended limit" then you can get a ticket for unsafe driving etc... Peace-

Depends on the circumstances as written above; however the recommended speeds are usually set for heavier vehicles like dump trucks, semis, etc.

are they all just warning sgins or cause if they were speed limits then they would say speed limit right? im gonna take a look next time i drive past one but if i could get a reply then that would be great thanks if i were to get a ticket how would i come about fighting this ticket? Thanks

If thats the recomended speed i would suggest you do the 50mph only because if a cop guns u at 60mph he could give you a hard time.

You know I almost never saw those signs until I went to NY to visit Colgate and Cornell. They had every fricking turn done up. It was incredibly handy, I stayed about 20 above each turn's reccomend and was never surprised by the turn because of that.

I thought those were the speed limits that is required to follow in the turn...
Is there anyway that we can obtain an official answer from the agencies?

Yes, if it was "the law" it would say "SPEED LIMIT" but they are really only recomendations for heavy vehicles as stated before. BUT, you can be ticketed if you are found to being going faster than that recomended speed if it resulted in an accident. In NY they are all over the place, but you cannot be ticketed for doing over that speed unless you are going over the previously posted speed limit(a cop may ticket you, but if you go to court and fight it you will win, because they are only recomendations. i remember this from driver's ed.)
