Hi All -
Hope everyone is having a good fall.

I recently bought a Serius system for my truck - it is ok. I was a bit bummed about the sound quality throught the FM transmitter. I also picked up the home base unit. The home unit is made up of a stand, a power cable, an antenna and an output cable that has RCA jacks that go into the back of your home stereo - pretty simple stuff - and it sounds really good.
So, couldnt I forgo the FM transmitting and hard wire it into the aux inputs on the factory radio? I am not a stereo guy at all, so I was hoping one of your experts could help me out or at least call me stupid (but tell me why!!! )

Thanks all -

Yeah, I tried that route, went so far as to dig the wiring out on the Haynes manual and what I thought were send and receive for audio inputs on the unit didn't seem to do anything. I tried a few different combinations of inputs off the back to no avail. However, That having been said you can purchase an AUX "Kit" for our units for about $100 if you search around the web for it.

Just an fyi anyways....

Sound quality on serius or XM radio will never equal that of a CD if that is what you are looking for. FM radio waves in the way that they transmit through the air cut off certain frequencies in the signals that they transmit ie highs and lows. The same way that AM does. Anyone can hear the sound quality difference between AM and FM frequancies. It doesn't matter if you are getting your radio from a transmitting tower or from a satalite, it is still in the FM transmitting range so you will always experiance signal and sound loss. Hope this helps.

Unfortunatly you're wrong about Sat Radio. I think what he is wanting to do is improve sound quality by hardwiring the Sat audio feed directly into the stock system.

As for a solution, I don't think the stock system has the capibility to do so, however, I'm not going to put my life on it
