Oh I love my Baby
I've always wanted a Grand Prix and now I have a 98 Grand Prix GT Coupe. I love it but now after a year I'm having little problems.
I bought the car used in April 2004, drove down to North Carolina from Pennsylvania twice without problems, in December the alternator went. Replaced it, inconvenent but no problem. Then in April 2005 the connector on the alternator froze, belt came off and to replace, $250. Now after a heavy rain the passenger floor had an inch of water. It even had a sprout growing out of the carpet. What the f!@#$! And since then the gear shift on the floor sticks but now the key comes out fine. I use the release thing but its an inconvience. Pleez someone tell me how to fix these problems and around about cost. Oh by the way I have a warranty on the car till 2007.
Pleez someone HELP!!!

With that much rain water getting in, the intake cowling seal on the passenger side of the car is a common problem. Need a new one or it needs sealing.
The shift interlock problem is the shift lock solenoid which is part of the BTSI system. It's part of the shifter assembly in the console.
Also - Check to see if you have a cabin air filter installed.

Checkout the following link. It shows the area of your possible water leak. If you do not have a cabin air filter installed (many GPs did not have one) it will help seal the intake into the HVAC air intake system. When water leaks in, it runs down the inside part of the firewall.

The gear shifter on my '98 GP stuck on me on my lunch break. I had to call a flat bed in. It began "sticking" a couple of weeks before it actually froze. It cost me $450 to have it replaced at a reputable garage in NE Indiana. Unless you want to be stranded somewhere, I suggest you replace it. If you're having problems with belts going bad, take a look at your water pump. I replace three belts - they were deterioating and I couldn't figure it out, but suspected one of my pulleys had a burr on it. Nope, my water pump was occasionally dripping coolant on it, corroding it.
