I am just getting into eclipses and Talons and I herd the eclipse gs is crap and I am looking for a 95-99 eclipse or talon. The majorities of the eclipses I found that were at a reasonable price were all GS and I talked to my buddy and he said get anything but gs. I was just wondering if this was true like if anyone had any problems with GS and what not,
Thanks
Thanks

It's not about problems, it's about how fucking slow they are. Same as the RS. Get a GST/GSX. Turbo is the way to go. Take it from someone who bought a GS.

OK, could you ask your buddy why GS are crap ?? He sounds like he knows almost everything about Eclipses so just ask him why he thinks GS suck so bad.
Now, about why GS are cheap.
GS- FWD no turbo ( cheap )
GST-FWD Turbo ( not so cheap )
GSX - AWD Turbo (not cheap at all, and rare )
The GS is a non turbo 420a engine model car thats packing only about 160hp ( around 110 at the wheels), however a lot of people say they are more reliable then turbo models and also cheaper to maintain. Turbo models are 210hp but may need some mechanical knoledge for maintance.
GS are nice cars, you wont have a turbo but your insurance will sure be cheaper and gas milege higher than turbo models. I had a RS ( less options then GS) and I loved it. It was fast enought for me and the only thing that I changed was water pump.
Gas milege was awesome and it looked nicer then those POS ricers out there. So if you want fast car, go with GST/GSX, if you want a car to get your from point A to point B go with the GS/RS.

140 hp to the crank, probably even less to the wheels than 110. :)

hahahahahahahaha, it does look nice though.
I see you still have your RS. Well atleast it looks nice. Put a god damn Hahn manifold on it and turbo that slow son of a bitch. You will never regret the day you boosted, unless you crash and die but atleast you were booooooooooosting :).

....the gs-t and gsx are the only ones with the 4g63
According to your profile you have a '90 Talon, it would be wise to put your car info into your signature.
Unless you have the insanely fast 1.8l model, you should see a 4g63 under the hood, turbo or no turbo. 2g non-turbo's don't have 4g63's. So my question to you; why would you say "ONLY" gst & gsx have 4g63's? So what's under the hood of a galant vr4 or an EVO VIII & XI?????

Absolutely not. My 1g GS has a 4g63. And really, a gst and gsx doesn't have a 4g63....it's a 4g63t. Mine isn't turbo or anything, but once I installed my intake it sure moved a lot better than it used to. And yeah, n/a engines are more reliable if maintained properly. But like I'm sure everybody will say, if you baby a turbo then they can be very reliable...but that's not what turbos are for :naughty:

It breaks down to this:
1) How much money do you have to spend?
2) How much money do you plan on putting into the car?
3) Is it a daily driver?
I bought an ESi not knowing anything about these cars. I've always loved the Eclipses. This was my first car that I paid cold hard cash for. Sure, I wanted a turbo, but I didn't have alot. I had 4g to work with, and it went out with the car. This car is also my daily driver, so I need to invest the money to keep it going. Being N/A, it is a little cheaper than the 'big turbo guys.' Also being my first car, I had no idea how to work on cars, or what I was doing with them. Time flew by, I got a boat-load of mods, and people bring me and pay me to work on their cars. Good deal.
Getting to my point, the ESi (or RS or GS in Eclipse terms) is a perfect car for me. I'm damn proud of her and what I've done for and with her. Is she crap? Hell no. I beat the hell out of a co-worker once when he wrapped my car in plastic wrap (I was also drunk ;-) ). Is she fast? Alittle. I've built mine up enough to beat civics... most of em anyways. That's all I need for now.
So, is it crap? NO! And don't you forget it.

Thanks for all that info but what is the difference in GS and RS
Like what are all the differences in the trim and what not
I'm going to do stuff to it when I get it lol but I don't really care for turbo if it came turbo fine but if not I'm not going to complain.
Thanks

I was hinting that it would be to your benefit to use the search feature, and if you would have read the FAQ you would have known that you can put a * next to a two letter word, and that would act as any letter and you WILL get results. I didn't call you dumb, trust me it would have looked something like this "YOU ARE DUMB". :nono:
Ever heard of google or yahoo?

RS is usually your basic..no power windows or locks..
GS has the options of all of that.
I have a RS for sale but it has all the power windows/locks, sunroof, all black interior..very nice :)

Jesus, Mr. Big Stuff here. Anyways, basic differences is that the GS is power everything, windows, locks and etc whereas the RS is manual everything. GS come with 16in wheels and RS have 14in. GS have sdieskirts and fog lights, RS doesn't. Basicallt the GS is the more "luxurious" car, but the RS is faster since its a wee bit lighter because it doesn't have all those power options. I loved my RS, bad ass gas mileage and you just can't beat the 2nd gen look, but its time for me too move on. Either way they're both really reliable cars, I'm pushin 117k miles with no problems at all.
