learners permit

man this sucks, for about a year i've been confident that i could get a motorcycle learners permit next year. till i found out just a few minutes ago that the damn thing doesn't exist in florida (its in maryland or somewhere). and i was really excited about the thing because i don't get out much because i never have a ride. now i have to wait for 2 more freakin years!

that sucks, in england you can ride a 50cc scooter ar 15, then a 125cc at 17, a 250 at 18. you gotta be over 21 to ride anything over 250cc. but if you have the power restricted to under 36bhp or something you can have what you want. all this requires training an various licences

IMO the system in the UK makes a whole lot more sense.

yeah the UK has things figured out....ND you can get a permit at 16 for a bike, you just can't have passengers and you have to wear a helmet...

and there isnt a size restriction!

there's a power restriction, you can have a 1,000cc bike at 16, but power must be limited, usually people work by the scale of engine size, because cant really "detune" engines too safely, and insurance is cheaper if you just get a bike with a smaller engine.

you're right about passenger, i forgot that pit. my sister's 19 an she's just got the licence an insurance to carry passengers, she has a 250cc. im not sure if its 18 or 19 to carry passengers.

Anyway back to the licensing. Each state in the US has its own laws as to when you get your license; some have learners at 15, or 15 and 8 months, limitations, etc until 18. Motorcycle licenses are another story, some states have basically the same restrictions as cars, others have a completely different deal for cycles.

So in the UK if I wanted an auto license, what would have to be done?

well, first you'd have to be over 17. you'd need lessons, although these aren't essential if you have road experience.

for the test there is a practical; on the road with a guy that test you, tells you to parallel park, 3-point turns etc... an marks you according to how you did it. there's more stuff too though.

you'll also need a theory test, this is testing your knowledge of road signs/markings etc.. this is a written test.

and the other is hazard percetion, you are shown a video on a computer, a bonnet/hood cam of a car driving through a city or whatever. this is on a computer, you click the mouse everytime you see what you think is a hazard, like a pedestrian crossing the road, car driving too wide on a bend, those kind of things.

if you do well in the three areas then you get a license (criminal record etc.. allowing)

if you dont click enough times you can fail that, the same if you click too much. you have "boundries" within which you pass, but you know, you have to click within time boundries of pre-set hazards.

1) You're that annoying kid that all forums have and that everyone hates that posts stupid shit and insults people just for the fun of it and is actually trying to be banned. Then later you're going to go on to your school boards and say "HAHAHAHA you can't ban me because I have different computers to go to." When the truth is, the admin can report to your ISP/school/wherever it is you're posting from and get you in trouble legally. Trust me, I'm an admin on my own forums. It can happen.

2) You're a bitter, wrist-slitting, emo kid that thinks the entire world is out to get him. So you express your anger by doing disrespectful and angry things to others. Trust me, we are out to get you when you act like that.

(For others: I'm not saying all emo kids are like that...but most kids that are like that are emo)

In response to the original topic: I wouldn't worry too much about not getting your permit. A lot of teens desperately want to drive a motorcycle (I know I do), but don't really need one. Why go through all the trouble, when you could have just driven a car instead. If its to look cool I think its kind of dumb...I know of a lot of cars that look cooler than motorcycles :P.

And two years isn't as long as you think. When it starts it seems to take forever, but when its over you'll think...wow...that wasn't long at all.
