Last year I helped my friend install a 307 in a 12 passenger snowmobile. It worked well but the engine was low on oil pressure and failed late in the winter. He has acquired a good industrial 327 from a farm combine and we are in the process of bolting it up to the 2 speed powerglide Everything seems to be a simple bolt up but I have some concerns as to what the cam difference might be . The engine # is V04028BA which I think means it was cast at Flint on April 2nd 1968 but I can't find anything on the suffix BA. Another concern is in the combine it operated with just a flange on the front of the crank. I've alredy installed the balanced damper off the 307 :grinno: Will this work? Also in the combine the engine was governed, now it is not. Will high RPM maybe cause some ring trouble if I don't ridge ream it?? Any help I can get on this will be appreciated. Since these snowmobiles had chrysler industrial 318's from the factory many people have acquired combine 318s for replacement engines with no problems so maybe I'm just being paranoid with the GM??

Well while I'm waiting for you 307/327 experts out there I thought I'd update on the failure of the 307. It was out of a camaro. Apparently the #1 piston disintegrated as parts of the piston were well distributed in the pan. The piston had 3 major components, the largest being the top which has a raised horeshoe profile. Was this a stock piston? I was surprised to find the rod intack with the wrist pin still dead centred in the rod. The rod was bent into somwhat of an "s" as would be expected. The rod bearing and cap were good by all indication. No failure there to indicated the cause of the problem.
