Cavaliers and Sunfires are J-Platform cars.

Also, in the VIN look at the 4th digit. It indicates the platform.

No...every cavalier ever is a j-body. Every sunfire ever is a J-body. Every FWD Sunbird is a j-body. Olds Firenza = J-body. Caillac Cimmaron = J-body. Buick Skyhawk = J-body.

Its just a frame, guys, that's it.

ohok, i thought it was just the body style of the 95+ cavaliers and sunfires, thanks!

For cavaliers the body style of the last models was a 3rd generation, 3rd phase.
03+ - 3rd Gen, 3rd phase cavalier
00-02 - 3rd Gen, 2nd phase
95-99 - 3rd Gen, 1st Phase
91-94 - 2nd Gen, 2nd phase
88-90 - 2nd Gen, 1st phase
87 and down - 1st generation

Cadillac had a cinnamon car? I want one. :D I thought that the 03+ would be a newer generation as they are actually quite a bit different thn the 95-02's.

Thats just my thought.

F-Body is a Camaro/Firebird
N-Body is a Grand-Am/Malibu/Skylark/Alero/Achieva/Calais
W-Body is Monte Carlo/Cutlass Supreme/Grand Prix
L-Body iss the Beretta/Skyhawk/Vega/Early Sunbirds
Y-Body is Corvette/XLR
M-Body is Vibe
G-Body is Lucerne/DTS
P-Body is Fiero
R-Body is Storm/Implulse
E-Body is Riviera/Eldorado
T-Body is Chevette
V-Body is Caprice
U-Body is the Lumina Van
Z-Body is Saturn S-Series

Those are the most of the later model platforms.

GM has had just about all the letters throughout its history except for like 4.

A good indicator on whether or not a car is in the same generation is to figure out how much stuff can be swapped between them. My 97 can take the headlights, front bumper, fenders, and hood off a 04 and it'll look find. Try doing the same thing to a 92 and something's gonna be broken.

Also, aside from the cosmetic changes, the 02-03 gap is not really that big. Ecotecs in 02, Ecotecs in 03. But the 94-95 gap is huge. Completely new interior, engine bay size, suspension was struts all around instead of shock/strut...the list goes on and on.

Awesome. Thanks for the info. I was thinking like the headlights and tail light assembly was a bit different. Also the front end on the 03's than the 02's.

the headlights on a 97 are different from the 00-04..they will never fit..and i know this cuz i was going to convert the front end of my car to an older year to get projection headlights...the hood, lights, and fenders on the 95-99 will not fit on a 00-02 or 03-04 or the other way around

Theres a gold Cadillac Cimmaron running around with really dark tint, cut springs, and another car's stock chrome rims. It looks ok, but its cobbled all to hell.
