Sooo..I am rooting around for some new rubber..I am not at the treadwear indicators..but will probablly be by end winter.. but have my eyes open for some new rubber.
I see a neighbour is getting rid of some tires on rims.Hey..snows..they are on 4 bolt rims..look good..VERY! aggressive tread pattern..and seem big.He does not know what they came off? Good price.Free.They are 2" higher than the tires on my car.Too tall I figure. This thing is gutless anyway..I cannot gear this thing up.These will cut the rev's down too much and load the engine too much. And send the speedo off.Who cares about the speedo. Will the rims fit?..I measure..looks like it.They fit. With less offset..more caliper clearance.Still plenty of tire to strut clearance.
Off I go for a spin. The car has considerablly MORE off the line/throttle response? HUNH?? I have just lowerred the rpms by a couple hundred probablly at highway speeds with a 2" taller tire.Must be me or the car. These tires have an extremely square profile.Especially when loaded.Ridiculouslly strong/inflexible sidewalls.Harsh ride.(30psi)The steering response is hyper sensitive..feels like it is on rails.Feels like it has a super high grip on the road! And then the noise starts at about 20/25 mph..and gets worse till about 50.Then it seems to change and be less noticeable.GOOD! There is NO loss of power on the highway..maybe a bit more power.
The tires that are on it are average..aggressive for all season tires. So were the last 4 new ones.I can't see that the last 8 tires on this car were all high resistance.I run them at 30psi or so.Off come the snows back go the regular tires.Back to the way it was. Then I switch them again.Same results.
It is either an engine load..computer factorring this.(I very much doubt this)OR that these snow tires have considerablly LESS rollling resistance than the regular tires.I can't imagine that..BUT! they do feel like steel railway car wheels.I go back to my 4x4 days when I had owned about 15 of them..and man OH MAN..the aggresive tires on those things had HORRIBLE rolling resistance and SUCKED back the gas like a pig.
These snows are of course radials."P" metric.Gooderich's..I forget the exact type. Not quite sure how old? Plenty of tread/rubber feels, looks real good.Extremely aggressive NO groove around the circumference.ROFL..I was actually out tire shopping today..ain't nuthin' with tread like these babies. These are a DO NOT drive on the highway in the summer type of snow tire.I am sure they would overheat.
I'm gonna try these suckers this winter!..Even though my aggressive all seasons were good! And I liked the stability of the grooving. These with NO groove could be seriously deficient in the stability area because of this and their super aggressive tread.I'll have to pay attention to that.
I guess I could do a coast down test or watch an engine load vacuum gauge.
Good price anyway..free.

I already have my winter tires on. They're not even Mud & Snow rated. Of course that'because I'm in Yuma, Arizona! :smokin:
