95 Metro still having problems

OK - You guys have been helpful before with this problem, so I am coming back to see if you have more info.

Story is - 95 Metro LSi 1.3L with TBI given to me not running. The guy who gave it to me said he was driving and it just died. He had just filled the tank, drove 4 miles and it died. I have checked the fuel pump by hot wiring it and it turned on. Checked the fuel filter and it seemed like it wasn't plugged (blew air thru it). Checked the timing belt and it was in good shape (replaced less than 30,000 miles ago). Replaced the PCM with a used one (E-Bay is great for these). Poured gas into the TBI and that didn't work. Changed the F1 fuse and after all of this NOTHING!!!!!

So, after reading on here I decided that I should start checking spark system. Spark plugs could use a replacing but show normal wear, wires seem to be the same. No burnt marks on the metal. Tooke the cap off and looked at the rotor. The metal was rough and looked a little burned. The cap had erosion on the terminals. COULD THIS CAUSE IT TO JUST STOP????

ALSO, It seems like the injector just isn't spraying. I am thinking this probably could go bad but, like the novice I am, have stripped out the top on one of the screws to open the damn thing up so I can see!!! I have a Haynes book, but this is only as good as what the actually put in here.

Any suggestions are welcome as well as questions about what I have put in here or not put in here. Thanks so much!!!

You checked the wires and the spark plugs but you left the most important piece of information to tell us , do you have spark or not?
Second if you don t get gas in the TBI that means that the computer has something or the fuel injection is blown or the injector is dead you can check it by applyng voltage to the injector contacts and listen for the clicks.

Does your motor turn over at all? If it does and it just doesnt wanna start then it could be your coil thats bad my did the same thing and it was a blown coil Haynes book tells you how to test the coil i would do that :2cents:

injector will not fire if your not getting spark, put coil wire out of cap next to metal part and have someone crank car. if no spark pull cap off and have someone crank it and see if rotor is turning, if its not belt is bad

I didn't know how to check the spark when I posted. So I will be doing that and updating here shortly.

You guys ROCK!!!

So, I checked for spark by putting a spark plug in a wire and touching it to the valve cover and there was nothing. I hope that since there was nothing that I did it right and that there really isn't spark because if I did it wrong I am going to kick it! Not really but I feel like it.

If you guys think that I didn't check the spark right, let me know and I will try it another way. If I did do it right, I am going to try and change out the cap, rotor, wires and plugs to see if that works. That, unfortunately will not happen until payday. I will keep an eye out on here for your suggestions since they are ALWAYS WELCOME!!!

Thanks again so much guys.

It sounds to me like it could be a broken timing belt. Take the cap off the distributor and see if the rotor turns when you crank the engine. If it doesn't, then the timing belt is broken. You can have a running Metro for replacing a $15 belt. That'd be great!

When you checked the wire on the valve cover did you touch it completely or just above the valve cover. When checking for spark you want to see a little blue or orange spark. If nothing from there check the wire from the coil for a spark the same way. If no spark from the coil than you may want to have the coil checked out. it may be bad. You may just want to change the cap, rotor and wires just eliminate a possible electrical issue.

Sounds like the pick-up in the distributor. Might try and get a good used one. I have one if you need it. I was saving it for a spare but am willing to sell it if needed.

*****UPDATE*******

I changed out the plugs, wires, cap and rotor. NOTHING!!!! I have been doing other repairs on my sister's Honda so I haven't had time to do anything but change out those items.

When I checked for spark, I touched the plug completely to the valve cover. I also have checked the timing belt thru the check plug and it was in tacked and seemed in goos shape. The belt was changed at 96,000 and it has 122,000 on it now.

My next step is the coil. I will try the suggestion with checking the coil wire for spark. Also, try the distributor and see if it went out.

Again, Thank you for all the tips and thoughts. Being a female I know enough about cars to get myself in to trouble!!!
