Okay, I've just had enough of with the problems my car has been giving me.. I cant trust it anymore and Im afraid its gonna leave me stranded like it has already.. Mechanically, its awesome, but the electrical system is what is real bad. It used to burn the alternators with a short circuit it had.. it was fixed.. not cheap.. then another short circuit in the ignition that doesnt let the fuel pump get going so it cant even start.. Man.. either sell the car or rewire it whick is insane :sly: but doable? I've seen those wiring harnesses on painless wiring and they look pretty good. IF I sell it, I will most likely go with a 4th gen cause its hard to find a nice 3rd gen.. trust me.. ive been there.. and even when I found a nice one.. it fucks up on me.. damn this sucks.

i just got done replacing the intake manifold gasket on mine. it cost $400 and the rear seal leaks too and that will cost about $300. i was originaly lookin for a 4th gen and i couldnt find a nice one in my price range. so it was either get a newer one with high miles or an older one with lower miles. i went with the older and i'm paying for it now. but luckily my college tuition is very cheap so i have money to spare but it must suck for you.

The car has a 350 in it so i would keep going with it. You already know that the prob is not from what you have fixed so i would fix it piece by piece. Thats just me.

yea, don't give up so easily, if you haven't already, go thru some of the tech articles on www.thirdgen.org and www.iroc-zpost.com and see what you can find.

Are you sure it is a short that is keeping the pump from running? If it were a short you'd be blowing the FP fuse. More likely it is the pump relay...or the pump fuse is blown. Follow the heavy red wire coming off the positive lead on the battery, it leads to a fuse in the engine compartment. That is the F/P & ECM fuse.

....carbed 502 big block........ohhhh yeahhh.......

Or do a painless kit, whatever floats your boat. But I wouldnt sell it. You think its expensive for a third gen when stuff just keeps breaking 4th gens are no better. The cars that are decent are out there. Like the deal i got. The car only has 88000 miles on it. I saw another 92 z28 pull up at a car club meet that i go to. The thing was spotless! just turned 20000 miles. Leather everything. ...it was beautiful....So was the procharged 383 he had under the hood.:) He took the original motor out and is keeping it so he will have all matching parts. sweet car. I wouldnt sell your car though. I think if you went through the circuits and traced everything and just replaced any wiring that looks junked up and in general just start replacing junk you should be fine and you will be that much better off. You got a nice lookin car. I wouldnt sell it.

damn my dad is also on your side.. he prefers the 3rd gens. I like them a lot too.. which is why i got this one. Honestly, i would be the happies if it had a 4th gen drivetrain.. I COULD just fix it and put on some AFR or vortech heads and do all the exhaust, possibly a TPS miniram.. that would be sick. I really like this car but.. eesh.. what do you guys suggest? take it to a dealer for a general inspection where they know the car (hopefully) or what other choices do i have.. maaan am I in a pickle.

okay i decided to give my car another chance. im going to have the electrical system checked for short circuits and get the wired inspected to make sure they arent all burned or just crap. lets see how this turns out.. and yes, i would have regretted selling it.

RULE 1 - NEVER go to a dealer unless you absolutely HAVE TO! They will rape you insane on fixing shit that's not really broken, and then give a bill you couln't possibly afford.

There's enough resources out there that you could use to fix your problems. It sounds like you have a pretty good handle on it though. Listen to the guys, and if you have to drop 10 and punt, go buy new wiring harnesses, not a whole other car. 100 -500 dollars a piece to replace a part until you fix it, and that will now last forever, is way better than starting all over again. Especially if you have a car you like.

Don't sell it man. When i bought my car it had major problems, and as time moved on, i ran into more major problems. Yes, it can be very aggrivating at times when you have an issue. I was having an electrical fire in my car, (almost had when anyways), shit was smoking and stuff due to having in wrong fuses and stuff. The point i'm tryin to make here is that stick it through man. You would most definitely regret it if you sell it. I've had a broken axle arm, electrical fire, still having shorts from the alternator wire, but i have never once though of getting rid of my baby. It is what i wanted for a long time, and when i got it, i guess i didn't really care about what a problem i would run into, because i figure you'd run into problems anyways, its enivitable. I just took my car of the road about a 1 1/2 months ago, and i regret doing that. I have to drive my grandmas corolla, which is no camaro by all means. Keep it dude, and give her all the loving she needs. She'll pay you back dearly once your all done with ehr.

Well, yeah I'm giving her another chance hehe. I called a dealer around here and I'm gonna take it to get a diagnostic check and let them know whats going on. It costs $95 but im gonna take it anyway.. hopefully they know what theyre doing and they can find the issue. If they find something though, im gonna get it fixed somewhere else cause I know theyre gonna want an arm and a leg for fixing something. Well, depends what theyre asking for to get it fixed.
