i have a question....what is considered a lot of miles on a bike? like with a car the rule is like 100k + is too many miles to buy a car...i know that if it was properly cared for that it could last for a really long time....but as a general rule what kind of mileage would be too much? Im looking at a 2001 yzf600r with 11415 miles if that makes any difference. thanks for any help!

IMO, it depends on where you live. in ny, where you can't really ride for 3-4 months of the year, the mileage will be lower than someone who lives in cali where you can ride all year. personally, i don't think 11,000 miles on a 5 year old bike is excessive, it's only a couple thousand miles per year. i've only had my bike one season and i clocked almost 4500 miles already.

Milage IMO isn't as large of an influence as the overall condition, but 11k miles really isn't a lot. My old 93 CBR has 21k and still runs perfect.

thats excellent clicks for that year i've got an 04 600rr with 11000 miles and i've only had it for a year. bike motors are die hard they can take a beating.

I'm sorry, but that is a rule that old ladies who know little to nothing about cars use. Who has been driving the car and how is the key. My Subaru has 182,000 miles and that is barely getting broken in. My buddy Mike's got over 500K on his. Diesel Mercedes last 300K miles all the time. It's cookie cutter cars like Taurus/Sables, Hyundais, Cavaliers, Corpsicas, and American minivans that you have to watch out for "high" mile on. As for a bike, since motorcyclists tend to be smarter than the average driver and properly maintain their vehicle, I would say it matters even less. Unless of course the rider is an idiot. But then, would an idiot rider survive 100,000 miles? OK, I'm done ranting.
