Does anyone know whether he has an F1?
I know he's a wild petrol head with several Ferraris and Lambos. He appeared a couple of years back in his new black Enzo at Goodwood. It was Sooooooooooo dirty, people had written their names in the dirt!
But does he have an F1?

But does he have an F1?
He has never owned a McLaren. He bought himself a new recording studio instead back in those days when the Mac. was hot and new.
He choosed a Enzo instead because it's a more modern and the "ultimate Ferrari". He loves the McLaren but don't think it's worth getting any more with supercars having 95% it's power at 1/2 the cost nowadays.
He is right you know, the McLaren is starting to get old, but I love it anyway.
Both the Veyron and the CCR has proven to be extremely fast lately so it's just a matter of time before we must admit it's been fairly beaten and must be seen as the groundbreaking classical piece of technical art it is instead of the worlds best supercar.

I know a lot of people say the Enzo has a race-inspired design because of the Ferrari F1 team, but c'mon. How close can it be to the F1 car? The McLaren actually was a race car (still is technically in Japan) and won many (major) races and racing series. Until another road supercar can do that, I don't care how much hp they put in cars.

Also, dynamically, the Carrera GT is hard to equal. Purists who like the McLaren tend to favour the Carrera GT over the Enzo for the driving experience it gives. Especially at its price point. Lookswise, it's also very pretty and compact, just like the McLaren.
The Enzo is just hideous. It may be impressive in performance, but there are a lot of electronic aids to keep you safe and help you control its power, so it does not really feel challenging to drive until you turn off the gizmos. If you do, it tends to spin out very easily, without much warning. It has a high level of grip, but it is easily overcome by its power and if you exceed it, you are playing with your life.
Again, the Enzo's styling is vomit-inducing.

OK Im biased towards the F1. :) But I firmly beleive what Gordan Murray said about Koenisegg and Veyron. They arent better. They dont compare in any way to the F1. Yes, they are both faster, but as GM said they havent moved the technology on. In terms of looks, power to weight, packaging or quality. They (manufacturers) just said "We want to go faster than the F1" and thats not car design its just blind paranoia. Its building to beat 1 facet of the F1 and not build a better end product.
In fact to me the closest car to the F1s ethos is the Carrera GT. Light (ish) NA engine, not the easiest car on the limit. Carbon brakes. Modern looking too.
And that would be my choice if the money was availiable.

the CCR and veyron beat the F1 in 1 aspect, speed, but they were both built just to beat the mclaren at speed, they dont even compare in any other aspect of design. for the F1 the worlds fastest production car title was just the icing on the cake, a mere accident really, it wasnt expected to be the fastest, it just turned out that after the car was designed and built it just so happened to be able to hit 240... and as we already discussed in another thread, if mclaren cars really cared so much about having built the fastest production car, they could just equip xp5 with a unrestricted gtr engine, i.e. F1 lm engine, and blitz both the veyron, and the CCR. i believe the calculation was around 260mph or better, so if they really wanted to, mclaren could easily retake the "top speed" crown with the 11 year old 'xp5' just by simply equiping it with an F1 lm engine... so all you bugattin and koenigsegg fans out there can put that in your pipes and smoke it... the F1 is truly the ultimate road car, and is still the best road car ever to be built, and likely will remain the best for many years to come...

There has yet to be a high-speed run of the new Bugatti but it should happen soon. On VW's test track it has been said to hit 400km/h but no official times yet. And as most of you should know now that the Koenigsegg holds the top speed.

The ulitmate goal in pursuit of its designer, Gordon Murarry was to approach ideal concept how he can make a daily useable, feasible supercar. To my acknowledge, as example on this issue, probably fuel consumption will be, 4.5Km/l to 1Km/l. Then, you can also say that if who can afford to buy such supercars, would they care of fuel consumption. However, this point is focued on the car's efficiency not person to be able to buy it.

The McLaren was the absolute pinnacle of automotive technology when launched - without material or budgetary constraints - and the prestige it has has been carried on, with cars having appreciated by roughly 40% in residuals after 10 years. A car that you can sublimely go power shopping in on a Saturday and still use on a Sunday as the ultimate track car. I'd, of course, love one.
The Bugatti is an altogether different car ... albeit one which shows how technologically advanced it is. This car is for opulent autobahn cruising and grand entrances, not for throwing around a track. Having read Car magazine's recent review on it ... I'd rank and rate it in as high esteem as the McLaren F1, and that's saying a LOT! I'd have one at the drop of a hat.
As for the CCR ... a) I find it a real monstrosity, as fugly as the Enzo, and b) I have a friend who's a producer in Holland for car and motorsports TV shows that has been in a CCR ... he says the interior is VERY poorly put together and tacky looking.

Please guys you don't have to tell me about how good the McLaren is as I'm a McLaren nut by heart! That was not my point, I only mentioned it because Jay said he would rather have a more modern car like the Enzo. And claiming that the Enzo is not an awesome car is just plain ignorant. He knows what he is talking about as he's not just a rich stupid entertainer who buys things out of hype.
Saying that the McLaren could "easily" take back the highest speed crown is a bit well enthustiastic! The specs. needed to go beyond 400 kmh does not limit to engine only, the tires and aerodynamics would have to be dramatically improved. The brakes on the Mac. could use an upgrade and it's still a costy piece of machinery thinking of the price of the Carrera GT, Enzo, Koenigsegg etc.
I've been in a CCR and can confirm the interior is a little tacky looking, but saying it does not hold the highest of material standards is just a lie. Also, I would like to see the Mac. do a Nürnberg lap so it can be compared to the Koenigsegg a little more directly. I hope the Mac. will win, and belive it would also, but it would probably not be in the "lightyears" ahead style some people here seems to think!

I agree ... look at the pinnacle of Motorsport ... Formula One ... differences in lap speeds between top teams are measured in nanoseconds ... not in light years, but the best all-round packages are the ultimate winners ... I have no doubt that the F1 and the Veyron are well-rounded cars, developed by the best-of-breed in terms of automotive technology ...
The CCR seems merely developed by a bunch of enthusiasts ...

There is another key factor at play here...technology. Materials and techniques and knowledge have advanced much further and are far more widely available. Any supercar being developed today benefits from these advances. Some of these advances that directly impact supercars:
-Prepreg carbon fibre and composites
-Instrumentation, sensors, other electronics
-Tyre technology
-Oils - for lubricating and cooling
-Metallic compounds for cylinder linings, camshafts, etc.
-Brakes
There are lots more, but you get the idea. A true comparison could only occur if GM were to design and build a supercar today, using the same goals as the other makers such as Ferrari and Saleen and Koenigsegg. This just might happen, too!
Murradeschot:
I don't understand the comment that the CCR seems merely developed by a bunch of enthusiasts. It's a proper company with design and engineering staff, and they have a very formidable product. So what seems amateurish about it?

Though if you look at it a lot of people say that the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren has fallen short of build quality that McLaren and Mercedes-Benz has been known for in the past. Why has this car fallen short of the name? Most every review about the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren has hated the build quality and lack of luster that both name brands have had in the past.
A lot of people have never heard of a car that I love and soon will have a go at the top speed run's with a smaller Audi biturbo engine and a projected top speed of 390m/h but thinks it can go higher.

Action speaks louder than words and theoretical calculations often misses the most important factor of them all, reality.

And they did not lack any fundings either.

I don't think it was easy, no. I don't think anyone said it was. But it is easier to focus only on top speed rather than build a vehicle that is a complete package. All of these discussions or arguments seem to split hairs. It would be easier to just have brackets, such as:
-must be new from the ground up, not somebody else's chassis
-220mph plus
-corners at over 0.95g
-0-60 in less than 3.5 secs.
-Production volume over 20 units (road and race)
Etc., etc.
If you keep this stuff in mind, it's obvious that all the cars we talk about qualify for the top tier of super exotic cars.

If anyone’s patronizing here it would be you as it seems by the tone in your post. But it has not been done in any way and I would hesitate to be as optimistic as I'm sure other brilliant minds have thought something similar from time to time without having the test result to back it up! Putting together a nice calculated formula is something completely different than cold, hard fact!
