Hi: I can't get a straight answer from any mechanics I have talked with. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated. Transmission is 5 speed manual, when it is cold it doesn't want to go in reverse, it grinds and you have to jam it in gear. The forward gears are stiff and hard to shift but don't grind. The kicker is once it warms up it shifts smooth as silk in forward gears and reverse for the most part is smooth, grinds once in awhile. Thanks!

Sounds like one of two things,
1. Someone put Gear oil in it instead of motor oil like it is supposed to.
2. Or, some part of the clutch is bad and it works once things expand.
Good luck,
Jason

hey if you have manual 5 speed and you put "gear oil " in it. get ready for a new tranny. those mua's take motor oil 5W-30 . thay don't like the heavy weight oil.

Thank for the input, fortunately that was not the problem. I changed the slave cylinder and for some reason that cured the problem. when they took the slave off the bushing was bad, it was not getting enough oil in all the time. For the week or so I have been driving it it sticks and is hard to get in gear about once a day other than that it shifts smooth as silk no noise. The mechanic says not to worry about it it will work itself out by driving. I guess I will see.
