Humming sound

I noticed today when I would come to a stop and then turn the wheel,a humming/whining sound was coming from the front of my car. Im pretty sure its something to do with the wheel/hub or whatever. It had just rained and I hadnt driven my car in 2 days, but it kinda went away as I drove.I was wondering what caused this and if it was just temporary?By temporary I mean like when my belt squeaks sometimes when I first start my car, but when I drive a little or get on it a little it goes away.Im pretty sure other people have experienced this but I dont have time to search right now.

hub bearings are known problems on these cars, and I bet you have one going out.

If it is making noise after you stop, it may be the power steering pump.

Mike, considering that it goes away as you drive, I'm pretty sure it's not your bearings. My guess would either be a sticking brake (rubbing on the rotor), or possibly the common tire-to-rim fit issue on the stock wheels, that causes a sound like that at low speeds.

Whatever it was,it went away. I think it was just because it had sat a few days+rain.

It was your power steering pump, they whine some when you turn your wheels when the car isn't moving. Regarding your belts squeaking, they shouldn't. They are probably loose or worn, either case they need attention. My power steering belt used to squeak in the morning on a cold day when I turned the wheel, the belt was too loose (when I put it on I didn't put enough tension on it) so I tightened it up and it hasn't squeaked since.

Squeaky belts are kind of a problem on grand ams. Ive heard that many people have this problem, and and this dude at my school has a grand am that sounds just like mine.

Well the belts aren't tight then, squeaking belts mean the belt is slipping and slipping means extra wear.

Check your belt tensioner and it's pulley. If the housing starts to separate, it loses tension, which will cause your belt to squeak, especially when it's wet and/or cold outside.
