Temptation is an ugly thing...

So, I'm down at the Yacht club with mother having a soda celebrating the end of a working week, and the coming of a relaxing weekend. Talking, shooting the shit, the usual bullshit sessions you have with various kewl people 'n such.

When one member, who just bought a few months ago a new Dodge Ram 1500 Daytona QuadCab . Which, looks just like this:
http://www.pickuptruck.com/IMAGES/autoshows/naias2005/dodge/ram/daytona1.jpg
Same color and all.

Quick back story, when he first bought it he was all ranting and raving about it and how it's so bitchin. He'd stand there and tell you that the thread in the leather seats is the same color as the paint. As if that's some magical thing that only Dodge can pull off. I don't know about you guys, but if you've ever been dragged to a Fabric store by your grandma or mom for sewing supplies. You'd know that there are literally millions of thread colors. So, finding an Orange thread to suite Dodge's needs isn't all that hard... nor is it expensive. BUT, he thinks it's badass.

Anywho, Mom kept telling me about even if you'd had heard how sweet the truck is one day. The next day he'd tell you about it again. Neat.

So, I saw the truck in the parking lot pulling into the club. Sitting at the bar he walks over and orders his beer and casually mentions.
"Hey, have you seen my new truck??"
"Yeah, it's really sweet." I shoot back.

He walks away with his beer, I turn to look over at my mother with a phew, Dodged that bullet look. Or so I thought.

About 20 minutes later, he returns for another beer, by this time he's had about 5 beers and for this man that ain't nothing. And casually nudges my arm. I look down and see he's trying to hand me the keys to said badass species of truck: Dodgious Ramius Daytonis.

"ohhh, noo thanks man." I turn it down.
"Oh, come on... go ahead... this truck will rock your world."
"hah... it's okay, thanks though I appreciate it!"
"Man, out of all the people here I'd expect you to at least jump at the chance.." He says.

I laugh, shake my head...
"Nah, If I did... you wouldn't have any tires left when I got back."
"Ha... if you don't do it I will!!" He eggs on.
"Well, I just got done having the rear in my Camaro replaced sooo.." I try to give an excuse to get out of it.
"Bahhh I'm under warranty, if it breaks I'll take it in and they give me a rental." He shoots back.

"Hehe, no thanks, I appreciate the offer though."
"This truck will rock your world though, go ahead try it. 345hp... it's fast. Heck, you're sober... I know you'd be fine."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah, 360ci V8 it's no slouch. It'll.... rock your world." The beers in him love that phrase.

"I'd say... right now the way I have it..." he starts
"What have you done to it?" I ask.
"Oh, it's stock... but I'd say right now the way I have it with the 3" exhaust and the upgraded chip... 13.... 13.4 at maybe 107mph."

The only thing I could do was just make my eyes go really big and look suprised. And I was, that somebody would through out performance numbers for say... a LS1 Camaro for a Truck that weighs roughly 1900lbs more.

I smile and nod my head... trying my best to keep my composure.

"It'll rock your world, fast truck man." He tries one last time.
"No thanks... "
"Well, maybe one day like on a Saturday in the daytime... not like tonight out in the dark." He reasons.
"Yeah, maybe something like that..." I agree.

He grabs his beer and turns to talk to others. I hold a big wide smile/grin across my face to hold in my giggles and laughs and slowly turn to my mother who was smoking a cigarette listening to the whole conversation.

She simply looks at me and says "Don't even..... just... don't."

I did a google search on one of those bad boys:
Car and Driver did 16.2 @ 86mph in a Dodge Ram 1500 QuadCab Daytona. Lets not forget it weighs 5290lbs according to Edmunds.com.

I'm glad now I didn't take the keys, I'd have a hard time coming back and not agreeing that it rocked my world.

Good going Matty, that truck would've rocked your world, kinda like a 300 lbs. woman that's close to her cycle.

Don't forget he quoted those times when he was drunk. Not to mention he might not even know any better. But I mean..yeah..that guy sounds annoying and his truck is slow/nothing special. But, he doesn't sound like a bad guy. That's probably the first thing that guy ever bought that was worth a shit and he's proud of it. Atleast he was being friendly and offering to let you drive it rather than being like "your camaro is slow..my truck will own it." or some other bullshit. Is he really that bad of a guy? He likes to talk about his truck..and he even offered to share it with you. :dunno:

So why not have fun with it, even though it's slow? I would have taken the keys from him, and gone for a test drive.

What a tool.

While they can tow a lot I hate how Dodge tries to make them look fast. The damn thing is heavy and has the aerodynamic properties of a brick.

my friends dad has a hemi ram and he swore up and down that it'd take my maxima. after i spanked him he hardly ever even mentions the truck anymore. they're probably great trucks and i bet it could probably uproot a tree with all the power, but it seems that alot of the owners forget it's a 5000+ lb truck and think it's a racecar or something.

Haha, that's good stuff...13.4. That is the exact same truck down to the color that I posted a kill about a while back. It was not fast. Hell, my Sierra 2500 HD ran a 16.8 with a broken tranny and in serious need of a tune-up.

Also, I just noticed that he said 360ci, that would be a 5.9L engine. He has a 5.7L engine. Someone needs to punch this guy in the face.

I guess after some heavy drinking one could get them confused...blame it on that damn same 'Go ManGo' paintjob. :lol2:

You definantly exhibited alot more patience than I would have.

Ahh, I dont blame ya for not driving. I don't like to drive other people's stuff either.

And come on guys. No need to be a dick to a guy just for being proud of his vehicle. I could see it if he was putting down all other vehicles and what not, but didn't sound that way.

He's really a nice guy.. just when you add booze he gets... voicetrous.

And yes, I normally don't like to drive others peoples vehicles unless I need to. And I did not need to drive his truck.

I knew a few people like that in college, lol. I think just agreeing with them on everything is the best way to deal with them, lol.
