nail polish

Hey, I was just wondering if there is a laquer and enamel nail polish paint. I wanna use laquer. If I do use laquer, what clear coat should I put over top of it so I wont get a bad reaction with the nailpolish.

-Chris...If I do use enamel do i need to clear coat it...or can I just polish it?

Funny you should post this. I've been thinking a bit lately myself about trying out nail polish as it has considerable price/availability/variety advantages :) I'll be interesred to see what replies you get.

As for polishing, I suppose that you would probably get a pretty good shine immediately. But since nail laquer is inherently a robust material (my wife is always talking about the benefits of chip resistant polishes ;) ) I guess it can easily take a good rubbing and buffing and might not need a clear coat. If it does, as a "hot" paint shouldn't it be able to take anything? Espescally if you start of with a few mist coats.

I think the big thing to remember is that nail,polish is going to be a HOT paint so you definately need a good, resistant primer base (inside and outside?) or your model will dissolve!

I've seen some great models painted with NP - usually custom jobs where exact color matching is not as relevant as it is for maybe historical or racing subjects and where creativity is the name of the game.

Nail polish offers a VERY wide variety of colors, and sometimes is even a viable option when the ppg paint store is just too expensive at the time, for factory color matches. If you want to clear, I've used Duplicolor Clear in the past with no problems what so ever

Nail polish is typically lacquer.

The Tamiya Fine primer works fine with Nail polish... Used it several time. Just be sure to cover everything with it. Plus, as a saferty tips, mist the first coat of color so the if theres any trouble with the primer, you'll find out in no time and you'll be able to save the project.

PS... viva Sally Hansen. Great Prism colors at afordable price and you're not stuck with an extra gallon.
