i have a 2002 taurus, i want to replace the rear speakers. I assume they are 6x9s. I have pulled back the carpet in the trunk and got to the speakers, i cant find out how to pull out the speakers. do i have to pull up the carpet in the interior? if so how do i go about it? Thank you for your help

the speakers are 6x8's, but 6x9's will fit, just not using the original mounting holes. Yes, you have to pull up the carpet on the interior and then unscrew them to get them out. I don't know exactly how it works on the Gen IV, but on the Gen 3, you have to pry the edges of the speaker grill to get it up.

in my gl they were 5x7's withextended brakets to screw them in, but i got 6x 9's to fit no problem, just drilled new holes. i didnt have to pull off any carpet or anything i just wedged the metal edges a little into the sound proofing and it fit flush with the original grills

does anybody have any idea what the one 6x9 hole in the middle would be for??

Big question! Did it make any improvement in sound to change to different speakers???

haha, yes it makes an improvement, stock speakers blow. i think the middle hole might be for a small sub of some kind. i may put a speaker in there. im assuming i can just pry the carpet in the interior up? thats good that theyre 6x8s because I will probably get some JL Audio ones and they have 6x8s in the model and such that i want
