I'm Seriously Thinking bout Getting an SRT4...!

Soon i'll be rakin in the loot working 2 jobs....so basically at the end of the day that means $900-1000 to save a month. I was first gonna save up for a 98-02SS camaro which go for like $7-11K in my area.......but then i went to the local dodge dealership.....
Today was awesome, i checked out so many differant cars at 3 dealerships.. I went to a chevy and took a look at 2 ss's, one with the ram air hood. Then the cobalt ss-that's a really well done car, in my opinion. Nissan was next....i checked out a manual 04 maxima, that car was impressive for a big sedan. I'm glad i actually got to drive it cause the other dealer ships where like "oh no...we're too busy".. Which they where, anyway the maxima really impressed me.
Dodge.... I always loved Dodge, especially the older muscle cars, mopars, etc etc.. I finally got a chance to get a good feel for this car, the SRT4.. Being the pleasant, patient individual i am...i waited for a sales rep to assist me. Straight up i told him i'm honestly thinking about this car alot, and in a month or so i might be back (if i get the 2 stable jobs) to finance and turn in my 95 thunderbird...maybe then put down $1000 along with my trade in. He said let's go for a ride, he wouldn't let me drive it though...? I asked him, he said when you're ready to buy we'll let you drive it....?!??
We get onto a street, and he proceeds to shift normally, while explaining the car is excellent on gas, yet has a turbo so passing cars on the highway in an emergency wasn't a problem (i'm thinking..what does this thing top out at)... Then he commented on how i was a "big guy" (i'm 5'8 235lbs) and would probably feel better in a Hemi Magnum... It was crammed alittle, but i love this car.. Now we get onto a 50mph street, he pulls out doing about 10mph...goes i'd say 80% WOT then shifts hard into 2nd chirping the tires..this thing was up to 50mph in like 2 seconds. I was cracking up, i told him thanks for giving me a good taste of what it has... We turn around..go back to the dealership....
I walking inside with him for a second to talk.. He was telling me that it's MUCH better off with the hemi magnum...cause that car is more you. I took his card, and told him i'll probably see you in a month...he says "i hear that all the time, make it happen"..lol.
I'm fully impressed with this car, braking, cornering (was decent) and acceleration was amazing. Now i'm just thinking if i should wait 3-5 months to save up like $3000-4000 to put down...or get it as soon as i get the 2 jobs.

BTW, honestly yeah this car is kinda ugly, but i just love it..ever since i seen it. It's got that mini-cooper kind of appeal to it, it's small..looks bug eyed..lol.
Simply i like the fact that it comes with good power, 4 doors (i like sedans/much easier hanging out with people) and is good on gas...although i don't think it's that great cause of the turbo..
AND, in the future i can make this baby a high 12second car with little mods. Maybe i'll throw on front slicks..i don't think the cops will notice to bad..?

Well, it's always better to have more money up front. I mean you really won't loose out all that much waiting another few months before buying it. IMO the SRT-4 has an awesome engine, but the chasis is not the greatest (Neon). It can easily become a 12-second car though. Good luck with it.

I think the SRT4 is now or will be out of production very soon, the be replaced with the Caliber. (Correct me if I am wrong)
A slightly used SRT4 would be cheaper, so long as its not abused.
The profit margin (and salesman's commission) is much bigger on a Hemi Magnum. Its an OLD, OLD trick to pressure a buyer into buying more car than they need and more than they can really afford. Don't fall for it.
IMO, Solaris, you have been very honest in your posts about your money troubles. It's none of my business, but consider saving your money for while, and put some money away for a rainy day instead of spending it right away or committing yourself to lots of debt.
It's worked for me, I've been driving dreadful crap cars for 20 years and reaping the financial rewards.

Thanks guys..
Yeah that is the best bet Magic Rat..saving up money... I do believe if i go the dealership with a trade in (my tbird is only worth $1000 to a dealer/$2600 for private selling) and like 5-7K i'd be much better off when figuring out all the monthly fees etc..
This isn't something i'm just gonna jump into also, i got some serious thinking to do.. Basically it comes down to patience. Then i see sh*t like my best frineds sister getting a 02 325i BMW..which the father paid $17,000 for..straight up...cash-money as george w bush says (wtf..why does he say cash-money..lol). Then here i am, like most of us on these forums, saving up for yourself, rather then having someone hand it out.
Jeez i'm 24 and no one ever got me sh*t.. In a way it does make you feel good though buying stuff yourself, you appreciate it more.
**IF ANYONE WANTS TO DONATE $23,000 TO ME...I'M ALL EARS**....lol

I work at a Dodge Dealership, and I've gotten the chance to drive a few, as well as my brothers girlfriends. The car feels real solid and the interior is great. Just a few mods, and the thing is a screamer. I think it's the best sports car deal on the market right now IMO. Hope your money situation works out for you.

hehe, the 5.7 hemi is an awesome truck. I just bought my 03' for 15k.
Back on topic, srt-4 would have been in my driveway if i didnt love the dodge truck and have to deal with MN winters so the truck was a better choice for me.

Lol SiGNAL748..that's gonna have to wait......
I just called my insurance, and they gave me a quote of $400-480 a month full everything..cause that's pretty much what you want with a new car. Financing the car wouldn't be that bad either, i called several dealerships and they said it should be around $280-370 month.....so let's say the highest amount for finance, $370+$480 for insurance....=$850 a month...jeez...
I could handle that with 2 jobs easily, but everyone i speak to..even my mother, says save up for the camaro. I gotta take another "spirited test drive" to get more into the ls1. Hell stock for stock a 98-02 ls1 does eat the srt4 alive, but i would like having a NEW car...rather then one with 60+K miles..
Another thing, i'm sure the srt4 is better in the snow then a 330ft lb rwd car..then again you got boost to worry about. My problem is that i have to figure out if i want an all out sports car (98-02ls1) or a good daily use car, that is very practical...yet HAS some balls and a good platform to be even faster....which we all know srt4 can hit low 12's with some mopar stuff.
PS, if i was to get a set of front slicks, and put them on only on nice sunny days...how much of a ticket would cops give you for that..? I wouldn't mind that, having a set of front slicks for like a 3-5 day sunny week period..it would help traction on take off alot.

Oh, and you read right about my insurance....right now i'm paying $250 a month ($1200 for 6 months)...
AND i got basic liability. I seriously don't know why my insurance is so friggin high. I'm 24 (25 in january), had my license since i'm 20..had 1 minor, and 1 major accident. The MAJOR accident was ruled her fault 100%...she blew a red light.. Even before that major one, it's always been so friggin high.
-Every place i call, it's like $240-280 month.....wtf..

It should drop drastically in January for you then. 25 is the age when you're considered "mature" by insurance.

Big guy wanting a 4-door car with plenty of room and speed. One word. Mazdaspeed6.
This car is roomy for big people, very clean inside, fast as a mutha fucka...0-60 in sub 6 seconds (havent found final numbers, there has been some changes to the car) and now runs a 1/4 mile of 13.9-14.1. So basically an affordable, better looking, more confortable riding STi.
If your going to get a new car....look in the speed6.
