This is a total noob question. You see i love my car verry verry much. i even have a pretty girly name and i shutter when i see other people change gears on there jettas at even 3500 rpms. My question is: is changing gears at high rpms say 4000 bad for the car? what about 4500? will i break any thing? Thank you for your help fellow volkswagon owners.

Unless you're running the engine up to the red line every shift, you're not going to bring about the end of times. It does add slightly more stress to the engine to shift at higher rpm's, but so does running the AC, not giving the engine the proper time at idle to come up to operating temps... If properly maintained, the engine and transmission will hardly notice.

thank you very much for your answer casey. say, at what rpm do you usually find your self shifting at?

About 3000 in the morning, 6000 around lunch, and 4500 when I'm trying to get home. Obviously it depends on my mood. As a rule I don't go over 3000 rpm if the engine is cold, and day to day driving I usually shift between 3500 and 4000 rpm.
