1. My tank supposidly hold 11.9 gallons. I filled up 11.962 gallons yesterday. Did I get screwed at the pump?
2. My gas light didnt come on. Is this some thing to worry about.
3. Is 82 bucks for OEM Plug Wires outrageously expensive?

1. My civic doesn't take that much at the pump, possibly yes
2. Something to worry about, maybe, you didn't post your year and make, but my gas light always comes on.
3. YES!! You should have gone to your local auto parts store and did it yourself. 20.00 bucks a plug!!????? ouch
just my .02

I dont think i made myself very clear.
I know my tank is 11.9 gallon big as I look in my manual. So something fishy is going on here. I filled with 11.962gallons and there was definately no gas light on.
Has anyone ever heard of the gas light not coming on? Could it be a fuse or soemthinng simple?
Lastly, I was talking plug WIRES for 82 bucks and I did not buy them. I usually do most tune up stuff myself. What is an average price for WIRES?
Thanks
Dan

just cause u filled .062 over what ur tank hold doesn't mean anything, u ever thought that u filled your kneck up 2?, your pump and fuel lines took some fuel in it 2? anyways its bad for your pump to run it past 1/4 numerous times.....gas pump aren't accurate either....big deal whats .062 of $3.00? not much, and $82 for wires...depends on what company makes them...i feel sorry for your girlfriend...cause you seem to be a cheapskate....its your car....dont be cheap about it if u want it to last....

although $82 is a bit high, you definatly got really good quality wires, ones that will last years.
11.9 gallons is a rounded metric conversion, the tank is actually measures in liters, plus you have to add in the gas in the fuel lines, and the filler neck too, which would justify the .62 gallons

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is the information I was looking for. Thanks.
I got the price for wires at the honda dealership. So they should be OEM stock wires. Seems high, im going to autozone.

i agree...shoppin around is good....but cheap skates like u that complain about why dealers charge so much, and why u always think your gettin ripped off at the dealer....should stop coming to the dealer....if u wanna save 30 bucks here and there, on some wires.....that'll last a summer or 2...instead of buyin oem wires that'll last a good 60-70k miles, then do you...spend save your 30 bucks now...and spend it later on doing the job again....... .062 in gas....c'mon now be serious....that would evaporate before u could even use it......

Since I have wholesale accounts with several dealerships, I'll explain how the mark-up works. Typically, the retail price a dealer will sell you the part for is 15-20% more than they sell it to whole to shops and people with wholesale accounts for. Typically, wholesle can be as much as a 100% mark-up over what Honda charged the dealer to buy it. So honda may charge the dealer $33 to buy a part. The dealer then sells the part to wholesale customers at around $68 or so. Retail, whether you buy it from the dealer or your mechanic, will be around $80-82. It's they way the world works. Dealer/OEM retail prices are usually high.
Now, there are other wires besides OEM honda that are good. For example, Honda doesn't make there own wires. NGK makes Honda's OEM plug wires. If you want OEM qaulity at less than OEM retail price, get some NGK plug wires. They'll cost a lot less, but are the same company that supplies honda with OEM wires. Summit Racing has some NGK wires.
This is what they list for all 96-00 civics EXPECT the HX.

Do not call him a cheapskate for being concerned the price was high. Thats a legit concern, no one wants to pay too much. He's just trying to make sure he's not getting ripped off. Flaming WILL NOT be tolerated, so cut it out.

Has anyone ever heard of the gas light not coming on? Could it be a fuse or soemthinng simple?
My gas light has never come on in 186k miles. Not even ONCE. I've driven it until the needle is below the red line. I've never put in more than 11 gallons though. Sometimes I'm tempted to drive it until it stops going just to see if the damn light works but I always chicken out! Does anyone know at what level the light should come on?

mine usually comes on when there is about 1-2 gallons left. I haven't driven completely empty yet so I don't know for sure. Really though, you don't want to wait that long to fill up your tank. At that point your sucking in all the sediment and crap that sits at the bottom of your tank into your engine.

10-27-2005, 11:51 AM
so how does one check to see if there is something clogged with all that sediment and stuff? Also, can i get that stuff out?

take off your tank and clean it out, or you can just stop being a little girl about a stupid light. Oh my god my gas light doesn't come how do I know when to fill up now? OH NOOOOOEEESSSSS!!!!

I had a 96 DX hatchback that had a light that functioned (don't remember now at what point it would illuminate). When that car got squished I got a 96 CX hatchback that the light didn't function on. In checking it out, found out it's not a feature of the CX but it is of the DX even though it's the same dash.

whats even funnier about all this my NGK wires were 40 half what honda wants for them and you paid 100 for wires that don't work as well.
CS civic does suck whoever hes is...
As said before filling up around 1/4 tank is not a bad idea if you can keep up most of the time you dont worrry about crud in the tank or ever running out of gas.

I think you missed the point. I can't speak for anyone else but I would like to know whether the gas light isn't working or whether my gas gauge is just way off. It isn't always convenient to fill up after going only 250-280 miles (when the needle shows empty on my car) especially on a long trip. Since gas mileage is variable, you can never be sure just how far you can still go. I would rather know that my gas light will come on when I get low than keep guessing how much have left. Obviously, I know my car by now and I usually drive about 350 miles before I fill up but it would still be nice to have a gas light to fall back on. Since I get 37 mpg I can obviously go much further but it's hard not to worry when the needle is below the red. FOR INSTANCE: This summer I drove down to D.C. (from Mass.) and on the way back all the gas stations on the Jersey Turnpike had an hour-long wait. It would've been nice to know that I could've kept driving longer to find a less busy station. As for bragging that you don't look at prices...PLEASE...if you had money to burn you wouldn't be driving a 97 Civic. I suggest you learn good spending habits while you're still young. Nobody ever got rich by throwing money away.

Anyone who really has money doesn't need to fault it like a child unless, hes hiding somthing else.
Honda dealers use NGK wires NGK wires work best and if you really were a "hustla" like you claimed you'd want to keep your money with you and not waste it I saved 60 bucks and got something better. I'll retire before you no matter how much older you are because I dont piss away my cash.
You drive 2 fucking hondas a real "balla" would have somthing a little more classy anyway. My hatch would spank both your cars and i'm upgrading cars soon also.
Guess what you stuck up prick? I probbly am the one who would manage your money. If you want to play the mover and shaker card you picked the wrong guy.
You dont have anyworth while tech info so why run your mouth trying to show off and look like a prick?

Listen son, i'm not that much older than you and I make enough money, thank you. I'm just smart enough to invest it so that I can retire early. Tip: If you're earning $55k a year and you live like you earn $35k, you can retire early! I'm betting your "hustling" activities aren't morally acceptable (and probably not legal) so don't knock those who make an honest living. Just because someone shops around to get the best price doesn't mean they're cheap..it actually means that they're smart enough not to get screwed over by unscroupulous people like you who are just out to make a quick buck. More importantly, if you can dish out criticism and ridicule, you better be able to take it. I'm sure whoever started this forum didn't intend it to be used to make fun of people who aren't exactly wealthy or who actually want to look after their money. You better grow up and learn to respect people, whether they're Bill freaking Gates or cleaning toilets at the local Walmart. Just because you think you're better than other people, doesn't mean you really are. Don't bother responding because I'm sure nobody is interested in reading about how you hustle "legally" and how you're smart because you make your $28 an hour balloon enough to be able to afford a palace in the country with a ten car garage to store your over-inflated ego. Not to mention the fact that the whole world is jealous of you. haha. Not that I believe you have everything you say you do...it's usually the people who run around telling everyone that they're rich who are buried in debt...
