hi, i know this forum is more about how to get more power into the engine and this question may not be as good for this forum, anyways i bought 93civic cx great gas saving car but my question is how can i improve my Gas milage? does stock 13" rims work the best, or its better to buy some aftermarket rims(to get better milage)? does msd ignition system is going to help? how about intakes, headers, exhousts? maybe change pulley? regular or syntetic oil? so as you guys see im interested in everything that will help to get great gas saving car... thank you for your time

to save gas, keep your car stock and follow everything according to your drivers manual.

Tune up, and keep your rpms as low as possible.

Synthetic oil, deffinitly. An intake or a K&N drop in filter might also be a good investment, assuming you dont start driving you car like crazy. Oh yea, I'll second the tune-up motion. Also, just keeping your RPM's low won't necessarily save gas, be easy with the throttle, try not to go past 40% throttle and stay under 2500 RPM. Yeah, its pretty much granny driving, but I do it and get about 32 mpg all city.

ya the throttle is key...
i read that using higher octane helps or an octane booster maybe but i also been told thats b/s

Never use a higher octane than you need, all it will do is hurt your wallet. And octane boosters are garbage, they don't even up your octane a full point.

Definately tune up, like plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. Keep the tiny wheels, they weigh less, and less inertia for the engine to overcome. Most alloy wheels end up weighing more because people get bigger ones. Other than maybe air filter, like a K&N or a fram airhog, that drops right into your atock airbox, just keep it running right. You might go for a new 02 sensor if you can find the right one, I had a hell of a time finding one for a CX. Because my old cx was a 1 wire, and the dumb parts guys would argue with me that it is a 4 wire. The sensors become slow to react, which doesn't throw a code, but still hurts milage.

i have a 92 civic lx and with just a short ram intake and a better muffler i get 40 mpg on the high way.

I get 40mpg on a high way on a completely stock EX. So you actually get pretty bad gas milage for a 1.5.

Couldn't agree more thats part of the reason you bought a Honda to begin with I assume...

I forgot to mention that I've NEVER changed my cap or rotor since I bought the car in 02.... Bad?

You can turn off your car at a redlight...starting your car is equivalent to 15 seconds of leaving your car idle so if the redlight lasts more than 15 seconds turning off your car would save more gas...really stupid idea i thought but if your really that desperate...

[ CivicSpoon]Tune up, and keep your rpms as low as possible : that is very important than any other thing. dont high the rbm then 3000 any way and in the 5th gear do not high than 2500 any way .

One more way to save gas and is especially apparent on the highway is to go the speedlimit. It's something that I hated to hear, but think about it like this - half an hour of keeping your engine at 3000+ RPMs (80 MPH) versus half an hour keeping your engine at ~2200 RPMs (55 MPH) is a substantial difference in energy and gas needs. I used to work for an express courier service and driving like a grandma saved me $50 - $70 dollars a week since I didn't drive a company truck and had to pay for my own gas.

Plus if you do the speedlimit you won't get pulled over which can cost you more money than gas would for a whole year. :)

depends really a short geared tranny will make it harder to keep your rpm low
