As most of you know, I am in the process of rebuilding my transmission... I have everything apart, and am actually starting to piece things together again... though I would like to know what to use to clean the parts before reassembly... they're not dirty... I just wanna be on the safeside...

well my friend Mike uses brake cleaner on all those parts because it evaporates clean and doesn't leave residue.

Well you're gonna want them lubricated more-so than cleaned....just make sure there is not metal shavings or clumps of crap in there...your goal shouldn't be for it to be pretty, just fully functional.

oh definitely... I decided to do the work in my shed... on top of an end table and plastic... it wasn't too messy, and there's not a lot of dirt inside the tranny now... but I wanna keep it that way... there were metal shavings, but I will clean them out this week...

Would Carb cleaner work just the same, or any residue/ not a good idea?
