does anyone know whether tamiya sell large posters of their packing artworks. Some of them are truly AMAZING illustrations. Is there anywhere on the web that may sell such a thing? If tamiya sold these they would make a fortune!

If Tamiya felt they would make a fortune, they would sell them.

Contact Tamiya Europe.

Back when Tamiya was distributed in the US by MRC, many Tamiya boxes had a fine print disclaimer saying "Artwork enlargeable for framing"- but this was never better elaborated. Can't say what they would say now, but it certainly doesn't seem an unreasonable inquery.

Let us know what you find out?

Tamiya do produce good box art... I think even if the product stunk their box art alone would shift units...

The Z tune and FW24 are good examples.. As are the newly released classic car range, Morgan 4/4 and Jaguar Mark II etc..

I too love the illustrations on their kits. I understand that they have a small team of illustrators who just...draw.

After reading Mr Tamiya's autobiography, this stems back to the beginnings of the company when Mr Tamiya persuaded a well know Japanese comic book artist (I think) to produce an illustration to use for one of their military kits. Once the artwork adorned the kit, they just flew off the shelves. A decent box art does draw the eye, I must admit.

You can go to Kinko's or the like if you feel like copying them illegaly....

Well as loing as you own the original couldn't you just argue that the copy is a backup ;)

Kinko's is a printing place. I'm sure they have a website, but I doubt you would be able to do much besides find out the cost from there.

Not sure, but if you do get the artwork enlarged, as long as you are only using it for your own purposes and don't try to sell it, isn't that legal? Otherwise wouldn't we all be breaking copyright laws for finding a picture on the internet and making it the background for our computer?

you could argue that you were using it as a reference to create your own artwork?

Any copyright lawyers on here?

To be honest, if it would violate copyright laws, I don't think Kinko's would copy it. And besides, even if it does violate the laws, if you are just using it for yourself no one is going to be able to catch you or care. Just don't try and sell it.

On Tamiya's Japanese site, they are producing a 2006 calendar of box art.

Bottom of the page. Not sure if it's comming out anywhere else or if it's just airplane box art.

Kinkos or whatever local copy/print place shouldn't have any trouble copying them. The only people that really get crazy about that is the little photo-matic thing at Wal-mart or Walgreens. You can always do the copying yourself, for one, but if you want it blown up extra-nice to extra-huge and get their help I doubt they'll mind. I copied the box top for my Mazda 787B so I could overlay the SMS instruction vellum over it, for example.
