Importing an older skyline

I really want to import a KPGC10 Skyline 2000GT-R but I don't know where to start. The car is older than 25 years old so I don't have to worry about meeting DOT or EPA regulations right? Can any registered importer bring the car in? And what kind of papers would I have to obtain?

talk to an RI or ICI. they will answer all your questions as to paperwork. and yes you are free and clear to import the car. although that is a 2000GT-R. personaly, i havent seen those things sell for less than 50k.

sasco you dont need to talk to a RI or ICI.Find your self a good customs broker, hes the one who has to fill out the HS7 and Epa form,he has to fill out the CBP 3461 form for customs.you can do the importing all by your self,if you call an RI they will either say they wont help importing it or they will say we will import it and wack you a crap load.get a good customs broker and it will be a smooth transition

Hey liny. I have one more question. You said its not worth importing a chaser because the value is not worth it to import. You said that they are worth 3,000 and it would cost 9,000 to get it and it would be a waste of money. But isnt that what you guys do with the 92 pulsars. They are worth around 4000 and you guys import them for 1200. So why is it not worht it for a chaser? And how much would an RI charge me to import one when its 25 years old?

to be honest with you,if i sell a pulsar for 9k i only made 300 bucks on it.the thing is there is more of a demand for the pulsar and its easyer for the customer to resell the car at a profit or break even

Ri's will do the majority of the paperwork for you, and will help alot of headaches you will have. the RI will get the car directly to the business, then release it to you. it doesnt get any easier. and i dont think you need to be giving out information on this forum, as you have already claimed to be illegally importing cars and selling them. you have no business on here.

I just bought one of these two weeks ago (a KPGC-10 clone that is). I'm also planning on bringing it to the U.S.
I would suggest you contact Brian on FreshAlloy (look for the topic "Update on my Skyline" in the GTR forum). He imported his KGC-10 and can give you the CORRECT low down on bringing these cars into the U.S.
There are no recorded KPGC-10's in the U.S. as of right now. There is one for sale by Classic Vintage for as low as 5.5 Million yen (about 50k)....but most of the good models are selling for around 80k plus.
If you ever want to drive it, stick to the clones.

read the threads on this forum, and youll see that currently it is almost impossible to do it legally.

You don't need an RI, an RI is only for a vehicle newer than 25 years that was not manufactured to conform to US standards.
The only thing you have to do is check box 1 on the HS-7, and provide a certified translated copy of the Japanese title (which states the year of manufacture of the car).

I wouldnt mind buying a clone instead if the GT-R is gonna be so expensive o_o...Is the clone just a GC-10 dressed up to look like a KPGC-10?

Whats been going on with sean morris. Im not trying to hijack the thread, but there is not new info on changes towards importing newer cars the only thing we'll be doing is importing older cars by the 25 year rule like the KPGC-10.

KGC-10. Yes. There are quite a few subtle differences. Tail lights, window glass, seats, fenders etc. Some clones are closer copies than others. A Hakosuka (non-GTR) in good shape will generally ask at least 15k. The biggest difference was the engines....the S20 vs the L20. S20 was a DOHC, L20 was a SOHC. Many of the Hakosukas now sport L28's since they look very similar on the outside, but boost your displacement by 50%.
As for Sean, he's busy with the movie right now....but he still has it in his mind to get the go-ahead to bring the GTR's into the states. If the new one makes a splash, it will likely renew interest in the "originals".
