Bouncing...brake problem?

I have a '98 C1500 5.7. I recently had all my brakes replaced, new pads, calipers, and rotors on front and new shoes in the back. I have had a problem with the truck bouncing a little while braking. So I replaced the shocks in back, they needed it anyway, but the truck still bounces. What is the deal? My soft smooth ride is gone and I want it back. Anybody have any clue as to what it is? Thanks.

Does it feel like it is in the rear? Could be a drum that needs to be turned (or returned).

You should probably take it back and let them inspect the rear brakes.

Sounds like excessive thickness variation or lateral runout of the rotors or an out of round drum

Well they said they turned the drums, but I don't know for sure. I am planning on taking it back tomorrow to see what the deal is. It needs to go back anyway b/c there is a little pulsating and surging when the brakes are applied as well.

sounds to me like the rotors on the front or the drums could need turned again. and yes rotors can be warped when they are brand new. Also they may have mistorqued the lugnuts causing the rotors to warp.

Sounds like bad rotors & or drums to me.Good honest wrenches are getting hard to find.Dont take no for an answer,make the basterd fix it like he got paid to do the first time!!!!

They can use them to remove them but never let a place use air wrenches to put your wheels on. I've seen it happen more than once, they have the pressure set too high and the force of the wrench can produce enough warpage on a rotor to mess it up. They will grumble but make them put the lug nuts back on by hand, most will if you insist. I got a new set of tires once and had the brake issues you mentioned after the tires were installed. I knew what had happened and sure enough when I took the rotors off and had them checked they were slightly warped whereas there was no problem whatsoever before the new tire install. New rotors gave the smooth braking again.

You siad you've had this problem prior to the breake work ? Is it possible that your ABS is kicking in ? There was a TSB concerning this. It seems that rust uder the wheel sensors is incresing the clearance, causing the ABS to activate at lower speeds.
Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Yes mt54, there was some surging before the brake work was done and I wondered if it was ABS since I know that's how they work, not constant pressure.

The New ABS TB was for the 99 and up silverados.

Well, I took the truck in today and they told me exactly what I thought they would. And that was that all my brakes were fine and that the shocks needed to be replaced. The guy said that when you push down on the truck, both front and back, the vehicle goes up and down alot and that ALL the shocks are shot. Now remember, I just put shocks on the back this past Sunday. So I asked the guy if it bounced in front, back or both and he said mostly in front, but some in back and that, again, ALL the shocks needed replacement. Well, I informed him that I had just put brand new monroe gas-matics on the back. He then was silent, and said, "Well, like I said, it's mainly the front that need replacement." Then he actually had the nerve to ask if I wanted them to go ahead and replace the shocks on the front. I laughed and told him I'd do it myself and save at least a c-note and have it done faster than them. So I guess I'll replace the shocks on the front and see what the outcome is. Thanks for everyone's advice.
