Hey all!! well, i posted a week ago asking highway reliabilty for metros. i took my to lafayette from richmond (indiana, 2 and half hour drive on highway). anyway, car made it up there ok, but acted up as soon as i pulled into lafayette, like a surge. also, minutes later, oil light came on (knew before trip that engine had oil consumption problem). she was bone dry before i left so i filled her up and she took off home ok with normal acceleration and all, faded near indy, but at a rest stop about 45 miles from home i stopped and filled her up with oil to be safe. idle was poor and she had trouble starting. eventually had to hold throttle to keep it from dying and it took 2 minutes to get up to 45 mph (finally got it to 55, barely). shaky, wanted to die if came to a stop. anyway, got her home and this morning did a compression test. here were the results:
CYL 1- 190 good
CYL 2- 150 low
CYL 3- 0 ????
tried twice and nothing would register on this cyl. spark plug was completely oiled up out of cyl 3. any thoughts? thanks in advance.

they have 2 problem, usually they burn valves but once in a while i get ones that break a piston or rod. either way engine needs to be rebuilt or replaced. if you just have the head redone they will usually start using oil so do rings at same time
or get one of the low mile japanese motors like they sell on e-bay and drop one in

Metros are known for low compression due to burned exhaust valves due to clogged EGR passageways. Mine burned two at 150K miles, but the cylinders still had their honing marks (no piston ring wear or ridge). So don't take on face value that you have to replace the motor; take the head off and see if EGR passageways are clogged and if ex valves are burned!

-machined and surfaced valves in january.
-car does NOT have EGR system.
