99 Passat V6 manual shifting issue

When hard shifting from 1st to 2nd to 3rd, when the gas pedal is abruptly let off of, there is a feeling that something heavy is "dropping" up in the engine compartment. There isn't any grinding or anything when this occurs. I'm wondering if there is a bad motor or tranny mount that needs replacing. Any fixes or suggestions as to what this could be would be great. Thanks.

the engine mounts are hydraulic. They do fail on v6 with higher mileage. open the hood and have someone rev the engine alot and see if the engine moves alot or clunks any.
