they claim the oil only need 2 be changed every 15,000 miles.....
I'm thinking about using it.
anyone try that before? any downside?
and, can the engine gain performance or gas mileage
by using different temp range of oil?
the new accord has good gas mileage,
part of the reason - is it because they use 5w-20?

""they claim the oil only need 2 be changed every 15,000 miles.....""
not true your oil filter only last for the regular oil change interval and there are solids suspended in your oil that the filter doesnt get to its just going to collect i would chang ethe oil at 3000 miles anyway.
with sythetic you can gain a little bite of power

yeah the oil resists breaking down better than standard but still gets dirty, and depending on how old your engine is depends on how dirty it gets. and yeah the oil filter is key to engine protection, and should be changed more often. you could really take the filter to 5 or 6k without too much trouble tho.
as far as power, ... not really. you might gain 1 or 2 hp on the reduction of drag in the engine because of the slicker oil, but i wouldnt spend triple (or more) the price of standard oil for 1 hp.

there was a huge debate on the b15 forums about this oil, the end result was that the oil resisted breakdown and prevented more engine wear so that the filter wouldnt take as much abuse and would last longer as well, one member went the full 15k and it was time to change, although the oil still had some life in it, he never changed the filter, i think hes trying to do an anaylsis on the filter to see how much built up matter was in there and if it was fully clogged or not, ill double check over there
