Taurus transmission

I recently got a free 97 taurus GT (its a gl but ive been modifying it) i painted a wide grand sport stripe, put a gt emblem on the back,and was about to install a custom abs plastic pipe cold air intake, untill i realized while driving it on the freeway, it wont go into overdrive. ive tried everything and its just not there, the rest of the gears work fine, no problems but the absent overdrive. any ideas? could getting a tranny flush help? is there any damage done by me just leaving it and running at high rpms?

i cant see any real harm in no overdrive, except to your fuel econ. the problem could be switch related. its really hard to tell with out physically diagnoseing a vehicle. but heck. we didnt have overdrive on some transmissions 10 years ago.

thx, is there n/eway i can tell if its a switch problem? and how would i fix that?
