1985 Parisienne Windshield Wiper Problem

Hi, I just bought a 1985 Parisienne station wagon. Over all it's in very nice shape, but there's one annoying problem. The windshield wipers stay on. I'll turn them on and they'll stay on (even with the switch turned off) until I turn off the engine. If I let it sit for awhile, they'll stay off, but if I start the car up right away they'll stay on. Is this a wiper relay problem, or is it more likely to be the wiper motor? This is only my second GM product (first one was also a Pontiac) and I haven't seen this problem in any of the cars I've owned over the last 20 years.

Also, I'm planning on buying a repair manual. The Haynes manual for '85-'02 full size Buick/Olds/Pontiac says front wheel drive on the cover, does it cover the Parisienne station wagons?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

The wiper motor has an electical controller attached. The solinoid for the controller is sticking.
Sometimes when the wipers will not park, you can tap the motor with a hammer and it will stop.

I have temporarily fixed the problem by spraying WD40 on the solenoid, but IMO this is a bit of a fire hazard. I did it just get me home on a rainy day.

A new wiper motor should fix the problem.

BTW I have come across this problem in most of the higher mileage 1980's full size GM cars I have owned
