Im Sure Some Have Read About My 01 Supercrew Having Trans Rebld Problems With Shifting. Well The Trans Man At Ford Tells Me Its Fine But When It Shifts It Kinda Slides Into Gear Rather Than A Firm Shift. Besides That Off To My Other Prob I Have A Small Miss Or A Rough Idle At 1500 Rpms Approx. Also Like When You Get To A Stop And Go Traffic Holding Brake On Kinda Surgin. But Most Of All Going Up A Hill It Starts Doing It Not Like Drink Spillage Surge But Enough To Make Me Look At New Trucks. I Did Put Oem Platinum Plugs In It Twice Thinking I Got A Bad Plug Still Same. I Catch My Self Flooring It All The Time Hoping To Blow It Or To Get A Code To Come On Cause Of Course Theres No Code. I Would Like To Think A Bad Coil Would Set Off A Code For That Cylinder But I Dont Want To Start Buying Them Until I Find Out. Put On Ur Thinkin Caps Gimme Some Ideas.. Thanxxxx Dave

replacing coils is expensive as they are not cheap, and there are eight.it might be worth taking it to a dealer to have a WDS hooked up.this little doohickey can locate a misfire while its occuring in real time and pinpoint the cylinder that is causing the misfire.intermittent misfires dont always turn on the CEL.they shouldnt charge more than one hour to diagnose this problem, maybe around 90 bucks.

I've got a 2001 Supercrew 4x4 with the 5.4. It runs fine but when the O/D is turned on and the motor is running about 1500 rpm it wants to hesitate when you accelerate. It doesn't do it when I turn the O/D off. This could be because of the higher rpm's or it could be that the O/D is actually the problem. Also, mine won't throw a code either. Anyway, I plan on adding some Lucas Trans treatment this weekend to see if that helps, shouldn't hurt anything. I'll be watching this thread to see if you get this figured out.

If you haven't done so already, I would put some fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank. This stuff has cured so many problems like this for me it's always the first thing I try. It may not solve your problem, but it won't hurt to try.

The problem is most likely your PCM

Finally got the CEL to come on while going up a long hill. Got code 0301 misfire cyl #1. Replaced coil pack and now it runs great.

Did the light just come on or did you do anything . Was you in od or pulling anything or just got lucky.

I had a small load, about 400lbs in the bed, no trailer and the truck was in OD going up a pretty long hill. I was also trying to make it run bad by keeping the rpm's around 1200 - 1500. It may have just been luck, but I was trying to make it come on. Hope this helps.

I have had a sliding gear shift from 1-2 at slow speeds for 164,000 miles, still works though. Must be a Ford thang. If it's a high mileage tranny with shifting problems go to auto-rx.net for tranny cleaner. This is not an AT fluid modifier, it's an internal parts cleaner.
"Rough Idle At 1500 Rpms Approx. Also Like When You Get To A Stop And Go Traffic Holding Brake On Kinda Surgin"
Don't forget all your vacuum lines. I know this is probably not your problem but wanted to remind people your brake booster diaphragm will operate while being partially cracked, leaking vacuum, causing rough idle. Don't forget the EGR. Exhaust gas recirculator, that thing sticks sometimes and causes rough idle.........
