My jetta has had some trouble but has been running well for the past few months. Just last week when I was leaving work to come home I noticed that the tranny wouldn't shift into 3rd. It seemed strange because it didn't stick in any other gear or shift late or anything else. I don't know much about my car but I did check the ATF level and it is fine. Any suggestions? Engine code is EM, I think, and trans code is AMC. Its a Jetta III GL 2.0 automatic.

my 96 jetta wouldnt shift into 3rd gear either. my problem was the sicrons and the little springs in the tranny. that isnt a cheap job to fix. i ended up just getting a junkyard tranny for $500 and put it in my self. it isnt easy. But if you were to have some one else do it, it would cost u around $1,200

my fault i didnt notice your car was an automatic. most likely it is just the springs in the transmission. that isnt too much money to fix. you should get it checked out quick tho before you end up having to get a new tranny.
